I have been on Arimidex an Zoledex for 1 1/2 yrs and for the last year have suffered from carpal tunnel…Anyone else???
So far I have had 2 injections on my right hand and 1 on the left (last injection in Dec’10)but now its back and oh! Bloody 'ell!! its painfull.Amback wearing a splint in bed and lots of ibuprofen.
I have just had an reconstuctive implant in March after nearly 2 years after my LDF contruction and that wasn’t as easy opp I had massive swelling and the drain in for 12days.So I’m not in the mood to be told its another op!! Have read in all the bumff on Arimidex that carpal tunnel is a SE …sooooooo if I stop taking the arimidex will that help my hands heal??? Any views before I go an hassle my onc??

I have been taking Arimidex for about 3 months and have developed severe pain and numbness in my right hand. I went to see the GP but had to see a locum who said carpal tunnel was not mentioned as a side effect in his book, he gave me ibugel and said to keep my arm in an elevated position(useless!!)he advised to go back if symptoms persist. I will be making an appointment this week!
I have been told that a wrist splint could help so will try that.

Hi,
I’ve been on arimidex for 5 weeks and stated getting problems with numbness, tingling and poor grip in my right hand (very slightly in left)after three weeks.
I went to my GP who is testing me for diabetes, thyroid etc. I couldn’t seem to get through to him that it was an SE of arimidex. He kept reassuring me about the swollen end joints on my fingers - osteoarthritis which I’ve had for years! I kept telling him that wasn’t the issue.
Has anyone tried a wrist splint? I was really only going to the GP to see if there was any advice to minmise problems as i’ve been told it may settle down after about three months once my body has got used to the drug. Slight knee aches, but otherwise no other SEs.
I was wondering the same Jenhar - will it go away if I stop the tablets? Not keen to do that even though I’m only weakly +ve to Oestrogen. Onc did say he’d review it if I have a lot of problems.

Hi

I am on letrozole and also had problems with my wrists. The GP arranged an X ray to check for spread of arthritis but when that came back inconclusive she sent me to a physio. She showed me some exercises to strengthen my wrists and also gave me some splints. I wear them sometimes at night because I tend to sleep with my hands curled into my wrists which is not good, and I wear them if I am doing something which puts strain on my wrists. For me - they help

Good Luck

Hi,
I am also on Letrozole (Femera) and have been diagnosed with Carpul Tunnel in my left wrist same side as MX which I had last November.
My GP thought there could be a link with the surgery/removal of lymph nodes/or SE of Letrozole, however has referred me to a surgeon.
