Arimidex and hair thinning

Not been on here for a while and things really changed, not even sure if I am posting in the right place

Been on arimidex for 3 years now, and the hot flushes are getting worse than ever, but another effect I am seeing is hair thinning. I am loosing hair at the temples (like a man with receding hair) and also overall hair getting thinner.

I have mentioned this at follow up appointments but all I get is a blank look! …almost as if I am imagining things!

Has anyone else had these sypmtoms

Me too! I’m the same. I’m 3 years down the line on Arimidex. Hair is thinning all over - particularly at the crown - again just like a man!

My hair is also in very bad condition. Conditioners do nothing. It has become very dry, frizzy and thin.

I feel a mess!!

Thinning hair seems to be a pretty common side effect of Arimidex and of all the Aromatase Inhibitors.

I’ve been on Aromasin for 2 years and my hair is OK so far although I know that some people lose their hair with Aromasin as well and I examine mine nervously every day !

But I’ve read that Aromasin doesn’t cause hair loss as much as Arimidex does even though the other side effects are just as bad. (I’ve still got dreadful hot flushes and joint pains). It might just be worth you asking if you can change to Aromasin to see if it makes any difference to your hair.

Good luck

Hi I have been on both arimidex and now on aromasin and i have no hair loss on either. I wonder if it is just luck of the draw as to what side effects you get with these drugs. I was told they are very much the same but i did have to change from arimidex to aromasin because of pains in my hands and feet (could hardly walk). I must admit the hot flushes are a lot less with the aromasin. I actually asked to change drugs because i could not cope with the side effects.
On your next appointment ask to change and explain why, the cost in the drug is no real difference so there should be no problem.
Good Luck.

Hi forgot to mention this have a word with your breast nurse and she should be able to discuse this with the doctors before you go upto the hospital. My Breast nurse is THE BEST and problems etc she always finds out or helps with anything.
