Arimidex - hair loss and tiredness

Hi I’m asking a question for a friend who doesn’t have access to the internet.

She has been on Arimidex since January and is worried that her hair is getting really thin.

Also she is constantly tired and fatigued. By 5pm she can’t keep her eyes open.

She would like to know if there is anyone else having these problems and if so how they deal with them.

She was dx last September.

I post regularly but I’m on Exemestane and have never taken Arimidex.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jan, and friend, I was on Arimidex and have been put on Anastrozole, and have been taking it for 6 months, at the moment my hair is ok, I am not falling asleep as early as your friend, but by 9.30 pm I am getting ready. I do not sleep all night often wake up, I do have awful pains on first walking in a morning heels and ankles. It does fade but my wrists and fingers are painful when holding any weight, even the kettle is heavy and causes discomfort. I can get pains in fingers and wrists at anytime of the day, but have to go along with it if the drug helps me to keep cancer free. Hope you and your friend are both well love junieliz

Thanks for your reply junieliz.

I’ll pass the info on to my friend, she will be grateful for any information.

I hope you are well apart from the aches and pains. I had those for a few months when I first went on Exemstane, I sometimes had to go downstairs on my bottom in a morning i was so stiff. They disappeared and haven’t made a come back. I hope the same happens to you.

Hi jan

I have been on Arimidex since may. Loads of aches and pains to start with and needed an afternoon nap as well, but finding symptoms settling down now. I find in the morning getting up I am still a bit stiff but that eases off quite quickly.

Finding other little problems creeping in though dont know if it is soley from Arimidex or been a combination with my chemo.

I have developed a large ovarian cyst which because of BC they are wanting to do a hysterectomy. Today I now have high a glucose level which if it goes any higher will need to start having treatment.

I also have developed High Cholestoral and Ostipina . Do they really know what side effects have on our body. LOL

I can honestly say my hair is baby soft grey and curly. Cant really say it is thinning though.

These tablets affect everyone differently. She might be just unlucky with her hair.

Hello. I’ve been on Aromasin for just over 4 years. At first I suffered from painful joints everywhere in my body, but that’s got better recently.

However, I now have borderline osteoporosis and also my hair is starting to be badly affected. My hair was fine for the first 3 years but for the past year it’s been getting much thinner and is receding at the temples. Hair loss is a known side effect of both Arimidex and Aromasin.

Good luck everyone.

Hi Soi and Anthi

Unfortunately my friend is really stuck out on a limb because she doesn’t use a computer. There’s so much information you can find, not least from these forums.

I know the hair loss has been worrying her, she says that if she has to take Arimidex for 5 years she will be bald within 2 years. Her hair is really falling out.

I’m sorry to hear of your probs Soi, as you say who know what our bodies will react to, we are all different. I think the tiredness we just have to cope with somehow and it seems to be very common.

Anthi - Thanks for the info about your hair. I’ll tell her when I see her later. It always helps to know that you’re not the only one. I’ve been on Aromasin for the last year and my hair is OK but I don’t sleep and so I’m always tired. My BCN told me that I would just have to manage the tiredness but it’s difficult when you work.

Anyway thanks to you both.

I hope you are both feeling well today.

J xx
