I’ve been taking aromasin since the 21st October. I don’t know if anyone has had similiar side effects but I feel nauseous and my memory is getting worse.
Have trawl through the internet and I have looked on other sites including some Americian support groups. I just think I’m losing the plot. Don’t know how I manage to work have to double check everything I do.
Really think its time I hung up my working boots. Thanks in advance for your replies.
We all have such differing responses to our treatments, so I’m not sure of this will be useful for you, but I hope you might be reassured by my experience of exemestane. I’m 60, and had a fairly early and easy menopause (at 43), but really struggled with all the typical menopausal & joint-achey side effects from chemo, five years of Tamoxifen (primary BC in 1997) and then two years of Arimidex following my secondary dx (liver & bone mets) in 2003. I’ve been on exemestane now for over five years without any noticeable side effects (OK, except for the rubbish texture hair, wrinkles and other signs of “oestrogen-deprivation”), so hopefully your body will eventually acclimatise to the hormonal change. As for the forgetfulness, work + BC mets + economic climate + new treatment = a ton of stress. Sorry I don’t have any easy “cures” for that, but I have found complementary therapies (massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, reiki) helpful in the past – v. relaxing.
Thanks for you reply. I’m 47 and had about two years on Tamoxifen and a year on Arimidex. The tam was worse for side effects and onc said it didn’t work for me anyway thats makes it harder to copy with.
The Arimidex kept things stable for a year and she said she didn’t know whether to change the hormone treatment but because there was progression she said she would. Use to walking like a 90 year in the morning and if I sit to long. The achey joints are all part and parcel of the treatment. I hada lots of pain in my left shoulder which caused me a lot of angst. I’ve just been told by my GP its arthritis never been so relieved, yet another thing to add to my ever extending list.
I had a maligant pleural effusion and now has progressed to my lung.
Must admit the scariest part for me was the nausea and the fuzzy head. Made me feel like I was going mad and then the mind starts racing away with itself.
I have aromatherapy and thats my bit of luxury. I treat myself to a facial and it helps relax me.
Take care
Chris xx
hello ladies, glad i found this topic, i thought it was just me… going mad… i was diagnosed with breast cancer in april had my treatment surgery and rads, was at first put on tamoxifen, oh boy, the side effects were terrible, my onclogist changed my tablets to aromasin, and hey a differant load of problems, i gained over 2 stone on tamoxifen, [water retention] my onc said , this weight gain is still here i cant seem to shift it even though im watching what i eat, does anyone have any sugestions ? when i explained what had been wrong with me to the lovely lady in holland and barretts she refused point blank to sell me anything, so did the pharmasist in boots, i dont really want to waste an appointment with my GP as im not really ill anymore, but i dont know what to do, my mind is so fuzzy i dont seem to be able to think clearly, ma be its early days and things will settle on their own , but any advice would be great, i found that taking the aromasin with one of those actimel drinks stop the nausia, now my knees hurt my hairs gone all straggley and limp im sure my wrinkles have deepened, but i cheer myself up every day because HEY WE ARE SURVIVORS
