At home now after a mastectomy...

Hi everyone

I’m totally new to all this so, sorry if I waffle.
I was diagnosed on the 17th May with invasive lobular cancer and was told that my best chance to remove everything was to have a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I had this on the 28th May and have returned home on Friday.
Going back on Friday to find out whether it had affected the lymph nodes, but my surgeon says that chemo is pretty much a given-he says my age of 43 means he would prefer to give chemo.
Home with two drains (does anyone else forget they have them and try and walk away…?)
It’s been a whirl wind, and to think on the 15th May I was sat by a pool in Egypt, drink in hand enjoying the sun.

Any tips for me I would be grateful, or just to know other are out there-people I do not have to spend MY time reassuring as I seem to most of the people around me.

Love to everyone on here

Hi there I was 45 when dxd with IDCand dcis, that was two years ago,I had a lumpectomy and full node removal,a small amount of cancer was found in my nodes,I had chemotherapy, radiotherapy and now on Anastrazole for 5 years,I was told a year ago I was a braca2 carrier like my mother, grandmother and 2 aunts, who all had cancer,in the last 9 months I had my ovary removed,as I had everything else removed aged 29,then I chose to have a bilateral risk reducing mx with expanders fitted.
I had them filled about 4 times, now I am on the list to have my implants fitted permenantley.
I hope this message finds you well,I can remember catching my drains a few times, you would think after one time you would not forget about them again, how wrong was I.lol
I hope you get some good news when you get your results,I had chemo due to my age,I must say,it wasn’t nice, but I managed to look after my 3 year old twin grandchildren while my daughter worked,so it was’my as bad as I thought it would be,perhaps I was one of the lucky ones, but I also feel, that for me the fight in me was not going to change my daily life, just because I had had chemo.
Good luck with your recovery and results, take care,Sandy x

Hi , i had the same as you with a recon straight after surgery . I come home on Christmas day with three drains over ten years ago … I can remember that I could never get comfortable in bed and was scared I would put out the drains . It seems a life time away now . Take each day at a time and think of yourself all the time . Let the people round you look after you … It took me about four months to get back normal . I went down the Hormone treatment route . I was 36 years old when this happened to me . Have had chemo not good But the support on here is out of this world . If you go through chemo you will find a thread with people starting chemo with you . A cyber support with every stage of treatment … Hope every thing goes well . Thinking of you With Love Rosie xx

Hi Jess - Im new to the site as well.
I am due to have a left sided masectomy next Monday after being diagnosed with ILC, multifocal on April 18th. With a week to go I woke up this morning feeling sick to my stomach and like the last few weeks, I headed straight to this forum. Im sorry to read about your diagnosis but for me it was reassuring this morning to read about you getting through the op. I hope your results are negative for the nodes. I have been suffering with swollen neck and groin glands for the last few weeks and have almost convinced myself that the cancer has spread everywhere.

I start chemo FEC next week. picking my wig up tomorrow with a few other bits and bobs. surgeon is talking chemo, possible lumpectomy (wants to see if there is clear enough margin more chemo and rads. sounds an awful lot. oh I have to have auxlliary lymph nodes removed as well as they biopsy was positive. hopw you maje a speedy recovery jess. u can do it girl. xxx
