Thank you, me too (it’s down at the minute)
Just had to call the helpline. Cannot stop vomiting. Began at 7am. I haven’t eaten anything and can’t keep water down , this is 11 days post chemo. Waiting for a call back for them to say some anti sickness meds are ready for collecting. If it doesn’t get better I will have to go to A&E
With regards to a&e, i wrote to my mp about the simple things the emergency department can do to improve care for chemo patients. I said 4 things - 1. Ensure that triage staff know that cheo patients presenting with a fever should be started on antibiotics within an hour and bloods taken, 2. Have a laminated poster up explaining red card system and best practice, 3. Have an isolated chair with a curtain or an infection pod at end of waiting area, 4. Ensure a picc line trained nurse is always on duty. He has sent my letter to the chief executive of university hospitals birmingham.
Hope your stomach has settled @bigpickle. X
Hi @bluesatsuma …I agree entirely with your points raised. There must be a better way. They think I may have caught a sickness bug, probably from the hospital. I have been here Monday, Tuesday afternoon, Thursday and an appointment this morning. If what you have suggested was in place, I might not have caught anything.
Back home again. At first they thought my infection markers were sky high, but they now think the filgrastim injections have pushed everything up, neutrophils 39! So home with more anti sickness drugs, stuff for oral thrush, plus antibiotics to be sure. Another 7 hours down the pan. Docetaxel is so poisonous.
@bigpickle so glad you’re home:people_hugging: , nothing beats that, and although sounds you’re reallt having a rough time, at least now you have meds to adress it, evennif it is annoying having to take them
@bluesatsuma well done you
I honestly wouldn’t have thought of that
Hope everyone has a healing and fun weekend xx
Hello, I hope you’ve all had a nice weekend.
Mine was refreshingly normal for a change and I guzzled as much food as I could while my taste is back.
I’m just wondering if anyone else’s eyesight has been affected by the treatment? I’m on docetaxcil, carboplatin and phsego but over the weekend my eyesight has crashed, I wear glasses for reading occasionally and I know at my age (53) it’s all very normal but I thought it was odd that it came on so suddenly. I see the onc tomorrow and will check in with her and book in to opticians too. It’s just another thing I could really do without. Apart from that I’m looking forward to getting round 6/6 out of the way this Thursday and getting all the awful side affects out of the way soon too xx
@songbird1 hey my eyesight is definitely worse. I am on the same treatment as you only had four cycles so far. I’m am on the September group but hop into this group as a sneak preview
Morning everyone,
Almost there @songbird1 I found that at night i struggle to see properly at times but not always, that and very ocasional twitching, but I’ve put down as part of the additional stuff we need to deal with.
Sending hugs x
Morning @songbird1 , I wear varifocal glasses and I think sometimes my vision seems a bit blurry, but then it clears. I am due my 2 yearly check up early next year so if it doesn’t get any worse I plan to leave it until then.
I finally managed a dog walk today, I just have not had the energy after this round. I am glad I did it. My last cycle is on 10th December, I will be so glad to get it over with.
Good luck to everyone having chemo this week.
Hi
@bigpickle glad you managed the dog walk and feeling better than last week.
@songbird my eyesight is definitely worse, I have a very small reading prescription, and the last 6 months they have got progressively worse, I am due a check up in January and I expect to need a totally different prescription
I was due to finish on the 10th also but my last cycle was delayed due to peripheral neuropathy which has been fun, my 7th cycle is going ahead tomorrow and I had a 10% dose reduction of paclitaxel, which now means my last cycle should be the 17th, which is very close to Christmas. I haven’t been floored like some of you but since the last cycle have just generally felt tired and a bit rubbish, constant acid reflux and pain in my feet, hoping it doesn’t get any worse.
On a positive I am quite organised for Christmas, just the children to wrap but most of it is ordered and the Christmas decs are up, is anyone else thinking about Christmas yet?
X
@mz45 I had a busy weekend but should’ve made time to put up Christmas decorations. I won’t get them up this week or next week due to appointments, treatments and no doubt feeling poorly next week. I will post pics of my 25 year old tree, if I do get round to putting them up. I’d love to see everyone else’s ‘up’ pics.
I haven’t got round to any Christmas shopping yet but our kids are grown up and will be hoping for money I’m sure.
I hope to feel more Christmasy by the 15th xx
@mz45, are you on omeprazole for the reflux? I had that badly with EC and got prescribed it, no problems since.
Christmas tree etc is going up this weekend. It’s my husband’s birthday on Wednesday, so I always like to get that over before Christmas descends chez moi. We always have to arrange things so that the dog can’t get to the tree….he would have a lovely time
@bigpickle, no I’m not I’ve been taking some stuff I had in the cupboard and that run out today but it’s been very annoying. It wasn’t playing up on Friday so I forget to mention it. Will definately mention it tomorrow, have nothing else to do for the 5 hours I am there tomorrow, lol. Good luck with the tree at the weekend and staying away from the dog and happy birthday to your husband for Wednesday!
@somgbird1 I believe my tree is also about 25 years old, some years I have a real one but the other years this comes out! I wouldn’t have put it up so early but daughter has been asking for the last 2 weeks! I put it up and she did help decorate, once I had done the boring bit! Hopefully you feel more Christmassy after the 15th
With my week delay I suddenly panicked as had planned to be finished on the 10th, the 17th seemed so much closer so I have been busy getting organised this week, so if I am not feeling great there is less to do! I am also working up to the 24th
Hope you all have a good week xx
My eyes are blurry too. I find it worse at night. If i rub them they focus better. I’ve got last chemo on friday and will make opticians appointment after the side effects. I hope it’s just temporary.
@bluesatsuma mine gets worse as the day goes on too but it doesn’t improve with drops or rubbing. I’m booked into opticians tomorrow and onc is referring me for a head CT scan to double check. I’m hoping it passes after treatment wears off but for now I’m not to drive. X
