August 2025 chemo starters

Hi @pips12, I’m on day 10 after first round, and feeling 90% normal, thankfully. It was tough for me too for first 5 days, mainly nausea feeling & fatigue, and metallic taste on all food. Ginger biscuits helped, getting out for slow short walk helped. It will get better. Sending hugs xx

Hi @pg92 and @pips12 I totally agree with the metallic taste. Some days if seems stronger than others. I’m living on ginger tea, biscuits too and gingin sweets. Amazing for nausea. I tried a cup of tea yesterday for a change but it doesn’t taste the same. Hope everyone is doing ok. Did you all get a little diary to keep of your side effects? Going for a walk later with my sis In law. I’ve got my second treatment on Thursday. Xx

@emma-jayne me too for second treatment on Thursday:)

@murphysmum im so sorry about the extravasation injury and all the other complications. That’s tough. Wishing you a better week. Good re the wig milestone. Ive not dared look into wigs yet!

@dianne3 i agree with the orhers that you do what feels comfortable and right for you. Personally I’ve only changed work as my usual job is spending all day with sick people. Otherwise ive done as normal going out and about. I tried a mask on a bus and plane but forgot the next times!

Hi @emma-jayne, yep the metallic taste doesnt seem to disappear, food is tasting okay’ish now (day 11), but agree tea is not tasting exactly the same, and I’m just struggling with plain water too.
I was given my treatment record book, where I can note down side effects and issues. Hope you had a nice walk and best wishes for round 2! Xx

Random question for those of you a bit further on than me - I’m on day 3, feeling ok so far though Friday evening I was a bit queasy (I did miss an anti sickness tablet by mistake which didn’t help!) and tired. Didn’t sleep great Friday night but was fine last night. And so far so good, just waiting for the “bus to hit me” in the next day or so :see_no_evil::joy:.

But it’s so muggy, and I feel like I’m over analysing everything - are you checking your temperature regularly or just if you feel you should?! I’m just sort of having the odd hot moment when I want to splash water on my face, but I think that’s the weather because it soon passes? Have you all been trying to figure this out in the heat too, or is it just me?

My next challenge is my first filgrastrim injection this evening :see_no_evil:

Hi, hope you feel ok soon. Just wanted to say, my nurse in the chemo unit told me to ‘grab, stab, plunge’ the filgrastim injection, which is exactly how i did it. Have to say it was ok, no pain, needle is very thin. I wish you all the best x

@bramble1 temp check once a day, plus before taking paracetamol and if you feel hot/shivery is what i was advised.

Thank you @outdoorsy!
I wasn’t expecting it all!
To take a positive, at least I’m going to have a port fitted now which should make the rest of the treatments easier.
The pain is the blood thinner injections. Still, they must be necessary, so onwards and upwards!!
I got my wig from a local salon recommended by the hospital. I actually really like it, but only on cooler days! I chose a style and colour similar to my normal hair. Pleased with it!
Take care x

Thanks for that, I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to be paranoid. I’m sure once I’ve gone through this first cycle and know what’s “normal” for me it will make a big difference.

I managed the injection ok and so far so good, though I’m fully expecting that to catch up with me at some point!
