Aveeno - which one or something else

Hello to all

I start radiotherapy today. I have been told about Aveeno, but not which one. Any advice please. My GP said aloe Vera but only after treatment finishes I am driving myself … is it true that I won’t feel tired until about a week in

Hi - I cannot hep re aveeno - but can add that I used flamigel - immediately after each session and then regularly throughout the day - and had no issues with skin, aside from a darker area of skin for a while - so can only recommend as my experience was good. I had 15 sessions - I didnt experience that much tiredness at all. I went by train as in Central London - but I would have been fine to drive after.

I used and thoroughly recommend Aveeno Dermexa, it’s the bottles with the blue writing.

Hi @gilly2 I drove myself to 23 x radiotherapy sessions and felt ok. Tiredness came after but not too bad. Working from home so other things to focus on! I used blue aveeno nightly after every session and my skin was fine just a bit red in my armpit towards the end but it resolved quite quickly. Post surgery and radiotherapy everything feels hard and horrible and bit sore in my ribs. Follow up phone call due tomorrow!

Hi @jolou

I used Vaseline Intensive Care Hand Cream Aloe Vera from as soon as I was able to post op - so used during chemo and rads too. That was recommended by a few ladies on here back in 2021. Ask your radiographer when to use or call your BCN. GPs are not experts in this.

I drove to the majority of my appointments - including weekly chemo. It was about a week in of my rads (15 sessions) for me when I hit the wall. A strange type of tired. It was later in the day when I felt it wash over me. I was working off and on (from home - had done for years) as I felt like it but did knock-off early.

I attended a Scar Therapy Workshop supported by MacMillan nurses who brought expert scar therapists. I also have had radiotherapy as some of the other ladies had. We we shown a great cream for burns/scars called Alhydran. It’s paraben and fragrance free. It’s also available on the NHS! You may have to push your GP or find an empathetic one but it’s worth it.

Also for general moisturiser I would recommend La Roche Posey. They are experts in cancer care creams :heart:

thanks for this Sylvie. By chance, I had found the Allhydran website. I will now give it another close look. How surprising too that you can get it on the NHS - it is quite pricy on the website, so I shall look into that.

What a fabulous idea to use a hand cream - they are generally thicker and I know how they have improved my gardening hands in the past. I will check this out.

That’s fabulous that you drove to most appointments. I started driving, but then my husband was so shocked when he saw how I looked when I got in (totally shattered) that he has now kindly said that he will take me in.

thanks for the advice and encouragement Rhubarb. It’s much appreciated. I hadn’t expected pain right after the first session, but the radiologist explained the next day that this can be nerve endings getting shaken up and it will settle down. Whether it does or no, now that I know what it is - it’s no big worry.

I hope your follow up phone call went well. Sorry to read that you a feeling a bit sore and less yourself. It’s a rum thing this really, no mistake. :pink_heart:
