Awaiting appointment with breast clinic

Hi, new to forum and not normally one to talk a lot.

Brief history of myself and current problem
2006(ish)aged 36 small lump in right breast which was removed not sure whether was a fibro or a cyst but told nothing to worry about still routinely checked breasts and had several lumps and bumps but was told no concerns
not sure of year another lump found saw consultant who told me they should be expected at my age and that lumps and bumps would appear nothing done about it, left feeling stupid about being concerned about a lump
2009/2010 Again referred to Breast care unit with several larger (now visible) lumps, mammogrammed and unltrasounds done a large amounts of cysts found within both breasts a few were drained and im assuming reported to be nothing to worry about although not sure if tests were done on them as fluids she said looked normal told to go to gp if anymore came up and then gp could drain them.

recently a Large lump found in breast,as it was the weekend, resolved self to make appointment if it stayed same as was causing me no concerns… within a few hours left hand side of left breast was hot and slightly reddened solid lump behind (which in my 34a chest) is quite large and visible also pushing a few smaller lumps to the surface above it. my first feeling on it I was reminded of breast engorgement when breast feeding obviously nothing could be done with regular gp until Monday morning, called them explain the situation and appointment was made for 2 hours after.
GP gave breast exam and noticed reddened hot area and skin surface in places shiny and pulled in others looked slightly puckered, he attempted to drain lump but nothing came out, and said he would make an urgent (within 2 weeks) appointment with breast clinic this I received the next day for a week today (17th Nov) also that this time it could be something more serious…
Tuesday evening noticed a lump in my armpit rang gp wed morning who called back within 5 mins he told me he had found they were slightly swollen now one I found is size of a pea.
Thurs rang the helpline as I have been doing some research (being a realist I need to know all possible reasons) have also rang GP to try and get some antibiotics just in case it is merely an infection in one of my existing cysts.

I realize both an infection and Inflammatory breast Cancer can cause both these symptoms but am not to worried about it (yet) it had to be the waiting though that is the worst bit, although I am being seen a lot quicker than any previous appointments, Im just now wondering why he didn’t prescribe any antib’s while waiting for the urgent appointment

hi there jacolemi

Welcome to our discussion forums, I do hope you find them supportive and informative.

I’m sure, because of your history, you are aware of what to expect with your appointment, but I thought I’d let you know about our publication - Referral to a breast clinic.

Here’s the link, it can be either downloaded or ordered from here:

Best wishes.

Hi,

Thanks for the leaflet, I had read some of them’

I’ve spoken to my GP this am who said he didn’t initially prescribe antib’s as breast looked inflamed rather than infected, although he has said now that he will write me out a prescription for some.

I’ve also checked breasts again and although lumps are still there one large one and 2 smaller ones above it, it is less inflammed in the area and although still hot the area is a more normal looking colour (rather than a bright red beacon)

Im just hoping when I go for my appointment next week I am not going to be left once again with the feeling that I have wasted everyones time. part of me wishes id taken a photo of it :frowning:
