Hi, am 40 yrs old with 2 children, have got an urgent referral to breast screening clinic next week. Am so scared, don’t know what to expect. My emotions are up and down, one minute i feel positive the next i am crying! Would be grateful to here any advice or words of comfort x
Hi fluffy29, I was 40 when I was dx in sept 2011, I have two boys 11 and 8. The waiting is the worst, I had one good day then bad day and this went on until I had op then results. My mind was my enemy and according to it I had cancer everywhere, I didn’t. I do still worry but it does get easier. I had a lump 2010 which was nothing then a year later I had a 9mm bc. Keep thinking positive , I know its hard but it may be nothing, and if it is bc then you have done something about it. This forum will give u support. Good luck, karen xx
Hi fluffy29
Welcome to the BCC forums, I am sure you will continue to receive support and shared experiences from your fellow users. In addition please feel free to call our helpline on 0808 800 6000, it’s open weekdays 9-5 and Sat 9-2
I am also posting a link to the ‘Referral to a breast clinic’ publication which you may find helpful:

Take care

Don’t worry about the word “urgent”, it’s a requirement that you will be seen within 2 weeks and not a sign that things are bad.
9 out of 10 referrals to breast clinics turn out NOT to be cancer. There are lots of other conditions that get referred, there’s a BCC leaflet that you can find in the Publications section of the site that will give you all the info you need at this stage. Careful with googling. There is lots of scaremongering rubbish out there so reputable and up to date sites like this one are the places to go if you want to read.
I’m on my phone so can’t see your post so sorry if I’ve missed anything.
Keep coming on here to share your worries, we all know exactly what you’re going through. And remember that we are not representative of the general population. There are lots of ladies who have had benign lumps who don’t post on here because they’re busy living their lives without cancer. I hope you will soon be joining them.

Hi Fluffy29,
Im so sorry this is happening to you aswell, i am 35 with 2 boys 8 and 5 and i am also waiting for my tests at the breast clinic. I had an urgent referral from my gp on mon 9th and i have my appointment on mon 16th. Since mon i have been exactly the same as you, my emotions are everywhere, cant sleep, eat or think straight. I am convinced its the big c and that my boys are going to lose their mum. The worst thing is not knowing what you are facing as your mind goes mad especially in the evening/night. I just try to keep really busy so you dont have much spare time to think.
As for the appointment, i have been told i will have a mammo, then an ultrasound and then a biopsy and it will take about 3 hours and my results will be in approx 48 hours, so more waiting !!!
Do you know your appointment date yet ?
Keep coming to this forum, it has kept me sane and i now know im not alone in this terrible, horrible, scary time.
I hope your results come back good and i will be thinking of you
Take care
