I had a scan and biopsy done 4 days ago, at the time they said I should get a call within 2 weeks with the results. This morning I got an email through with an appointment booked with a consultant in a months time. I’m confused as thought I would be having a telephone call within 2 weeks! Has anyone else had this?
I had a similar experience. A telephone call was booked for two weeks from my biopsy date, but I was contacted by the clinic a few days before to book this in as a face to face appointment instead, which happened on the same date the phone call was originally scheduled for.
It wasn’t an easy wait to start with and my anxiety increased so much when they changed the appointment. The feeling of uncertainty and the lack of control was awful.
The change in appointment means the team looking after your case are trying to give you the best quality of care and doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cancer. It could be something benign that needs further examination, treatment or a more focussed discussion.
Mine did turn out to be cancer unfortunately and I’m glad I received the news in the way that I did. It was a very informative, in-depth and supportive talk and my surgeon is even a hugger!
I wish you the best of luck for the results you want, but please know that there is a ton of support for you if it does happen to go the other way. x
Hi, they don’t tend to give results over the phone in my experience. This can lead to heightened anxiety as you wait and wonder, which is horrendous. Personally I would rather have a phone call to let me know what’s happening and a follow up face to face if necessary. I have got my self in a proper state over nothing on numerous occasions. I have made a note to self next time to phone them back and insist on an indication of what is going on rather than wait. Whether they will comply with my wishes is still to be seen!
Hi …..to wait a month seems a long time when you are worried and anxious…….I have spiraled on lots of occasions (often for no worsening symptoms ….i am stable re my diagnosis). I have dealt with different hospitals & a wide range of medical professional - majority of occasions I have received excellent treatment & advice…however some interactions have not been good. I personally prefer face to face appointments ( I live close to Christies Manchester) to avoid confusion but see different medical professionals each time …very confusing as often difficult to see the name badges/profession . I try to be proactive ( please do what you feel is best for you ) ….after 3 years of treatment but i also pace myself when needed. However to wait 4 weeks seems a long time if you need to start treatment. You need the results asap so you can be sign posted to the correct department Can you contact the Consultants secretary or the Breast Care Nurses to try to bring the appointment forward. This is your health and often letters/appointments are auto generated and can be changed. I once had scan reports which said I was worsening and my anxiety was through the roof …next doctor disagreed and since then all has been steady !! Hope this is helpful. I am a non medical person with no experience of the NHS …been a massive learning curve about who to contact to progress what is needed for me …..
Hiya, Thankyou for your usual message. I have since had an email to say the appointment in a months time has now been moved to 2 weeks time. Not sure if that’s good news or not!
