Back from Holiday and starting rads

Hi

I have just returned from our house in Spain and am well rested. I am going for my first appointment at Christies tomorrow to be measured up for radiotherapy. I have just been reading some of the posts re rads and feeling sore and burnt etc. Perhaps I should have done more topless sunbathing whilst on holiday to toughen up the skin! I am really looking forward to the next 4 weeks, I must say! Started taking Tamoxifen just over 3 weeks ago. Can’t tell if I am having hot flushes yet, as it was so hot in Spain.

Hope everyone is doing OK.

Love.

Julie.

Hi Julie

Glad you ha a fab holiday and are well rested. Good luck for the measuring up at Christies and for the next four weeks.

I am having more surgery friday - mastectomy with immediate recon and totally aux clearance. Then chemo and rads for me. What showed on core biopsy was only the icing on the cake - they found grade 3 with lymph node involvement and dcis - just to add insult to injuy!!! At least I now have some sort of plan.

Feel really well - so it all seems so surreal.

Take Care, Love

Hi Julie
I am a Julie too and I am going to be measured for Rads tomorrow at Southampton -how spooky is that!
When do you have your first one? I start October 8th and am having 25 sessions

Jools (Julie)

glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday. I start my rads on the 1st Oct for 3 weeks then 4 weeks after I’ve finished I’m off to florida - I’m counting down the days

Thanks everyone.

Anne I am so sorry it was bad news. As you say, at least you now have a plan of action and you can fight the b… and get rid of it. I will be thinking of you on Friday.

Jools - I am not sure of my plan of action yet but will let you know later.

Kelyn - Keep counting the days. It will give you something to look forward to.

Love to all

Julie.

Hi Julie

Glad to hear you had a god break in Spain. Sounds like a lot of us are up for treatment pretty soon. I go to Mount Vernon for my measuring up 2nd October, so after that we can all compare notes. Like you am a bit apprehensive about the skin bit. I am not fair skinned but very sensitive so am taking advice from other girls to start slapping on the E45 or Aqueous cream NOW!! Plus I am trying to get some physion in as I have cording, but I think its improving. Well hey ho girls do we care? We take everything thats thrown at us cos we are women and thats what we do!!

Love to all

Norma

Hi everyone

Have just come back from Christies after being measured up. I feel a bit down for some reason. I don’t know if it is the thought of travelling there every day for 4 weeks or because it felt a bit impersonal. Perhaps going there makes it all feel a bit more real. Whatever the reason, I know I am being selfish and should just snap out of it, as there are a lot of you out there who are having a worse time than me.

I am starting treatment on Thursday, so will start with the cream as recommended!

Love
Julie.

Hi Julie

Know what you mean re impersonal. I will be following you for the same next week. When we are going through this its a huge trauma and the pro’s I think should realise what a big thing this is for women.
Don’t think for a moment you are being selfish it’s just another emotion we haven’t experienced yet and it takes us all different ways, so thats why we have this site so we can talk and not feel stupid. Yes there are women out there having a much worse time than me also but you can only go with your own feelings. Julie, cheer up my love, we are all with you, have a glass of wine and give yourself a pat on the back for coping as you have so far.

Thanks Norma

I don’t need any encouragement re the glass of wine, I can tell you. I keep saying I must cut down though, having had even more than usual in Spain over the past two weeks!

I am feeling a bit better now though and your words of support are very welcome.

Love

Julie.

Hi Julie,

I am glad you have been able to get out to Spain, and are now well rested in anticipation of your forthcoming rads. I too will be starting rads and Tamoxifen shortly, just got one cycle of CMF to go yet!

I wish you well for your first session on Thurs, others have said it takes longer to get you in position than it does to actually do the rads! Its good that you’re gonna start slapping on the aqueous cream from now, I always moisturise but will be sure to slap it on even more when I’m due to start rads!

Take care and let us know how you get on,

Kelly

Hi Julie,

I felt the same as you did when I went for rads planning. For me, I think it was because the rads was at a big, well known cancer hospital and seemed more real, whereas my diagnosis and surgery was at a general hospital. My 5 weeks went very quickly and now it is finished I have had to find another daily focus in my life.

I hope the treatment goes well,

Kat x

Thanks everyone. Juliex
