Back pain concern

Hello, thought I had done well up to now. Diagnosed in may, grade 3 IDC, hormone POS her 2 neg. 11mm gross little beast removed. Clean margins obtained, no lymph involvement, onco score 9. No chemo required. Had a really bad reaction to my initial biopsy with a haematoma that is still partially there after my lumpectomy. Had on and off back pain since my biopsy, hadn’t mentioned it until today as it was so intermittent ( and I’ve had back problems here and there over the years) last week it’s ramped right up so I made contact with oncology who are contacting me tomorrow. I have a feeling they’re going to put down to the tamoxifen but hoping they will do a scan to at least be sure. Anyone been in this situation? I’m crashing out and just had got a horrible feeling my all clear wasn’t really an all clear :face_holding_back_tears:

Hi @frigga

I’ve had a back issue which has intermittently cropped up over a number of years. When it flared up about 8/9 months after diagnosis I had a bit of a panic and, of course, immediately wondered what if…? I contacted my GP who basically said, in a very kind and professional way, that I was worrying unnecessarily and with my histology it was very unlikely to be cancer that had spread. The GP did understand though and wanted to provide reassurance so did an urgent referral to a physio who saw me within a few days. I was examined fully and the physio’s conclusion was that I had weak glutes and am getting old, haha! I was given exercises and realised many of these were like Pilates moves I’d done in some classes before. I started consistently doing Pilates weekly and haven’t had an issue with my back since. I hope that yours is nothing to worry about too but would definitely give your GP a go as mine was brilliant and fully put my mind to rest. x

It’s far more likely to be from holding yourself differently during treatment. I’d try getting a sports massage, trying something stretchy like Pilates and maybe seeing a physio. My shoulders and arms have taking a few months to sort out. I think I was doing my postop exercises wrong and did more harm than good. I was also holding my arm away from my injured breast.

Hopefully this is the case for myself! I hate being this way, I hate how since having cancer it makes you questions every symptom you have going forward! My oncologist was great, I gave him a ring and he’s arranged a bone scan to settle my worries - he’s adamant he’s not expecting to see anything and it would be highly unlikely to have spread based on my diagnosis. So I pray he’s spot on! Thanks for your advice it really helps to hear from people who have gone through the same x

Absolutely! I didn’t even want to do my routine bowel screening yeast (which came back clear).
