Just finished all treatment- mastectomy, chemotherapy(FEC & Taxotere) and radiotherapy. On tamoxifen(with all side effects!!!) and ready to go back to work. Any suggestions about coping with ‘goodwill’ plus tiredness?
PS I’m a teacher!!
Might find it interesting to read a thread in the section ‘Living with breast cancer’ - titled ‘Scared to go back to work’ lots of people sharing their thoughts and experiences.
I am also a teacher - Foundation Stage, job sharing in a Nursery Class in Hackney, went back this week but didn’t go according to plan, absolutely shattered and thick head.
Have been in contact with school and am going in as an extra next week which will give me chance to get to know the new children, do obs. planning etc and will also give me a chance to go in late / leave early and at least get a chance for a seat on the tube for one leg of the journey.
Take your return to work slowly, phase it in, once back the children and staff expect you to be back to normal. Had an appointment with ‘Occupational Health’ before my return (you can referr your self) they were really helpful - just a pity I didn’t follow their advice!!
All the best for your return to the classroom, which age do you teach?
Hi
I too am a teacher (teach year 4 and 5) and am planning to go back to work soon. I finished my chemo last month. I just wondered what information other people gave to parents/ children when they went back about why they have been off. Do not really want to go into lots of detail but also want them to realise why I may not be quite myself. All they know at the moment is that I have not been well.
