In April last year before I was even diagnosed with BC I had routine blood tests for another disorder. All were fine except for my Thyroid levels and my GP said we re-check again in 3 months. Well of course then the BC was diagnosed and that took over from all other thoughts. I had lumpectomy/lymph node removal and Radiotherapy and returned to work in January this year. I have been on Tamoxifen since August 2007. I felt really exhausted and uninterested in anything and put it all down to the Tamoxifen. However another blood test in February revealed an Under Active Thyroid and my GP first put me on the lowest dose of Thyroxine 25mcg but I felt no better. Three weeks ago I was told (after blood test) to double the dose to 50mcg and boy what a difference. I haven’t felt this good for a long, long time. Have more energy and get up and go, more interest in what’s going on etc. In fact I feel a new person.
Now I am not saying Tamoxifen isn’t responsible for lots of side-effect and reactions. The only thing I am saying is that sometimes we may blame it for all our ailments, only to find like me it was something completely different. So obviously it’s really import for us all to tell our GP everything and not just assume it’s the Tamoxifen.
