becoming a volunteer

becoming a volunteer i would just like to say that i am mid way through my training as a peer supporter for Breast Cancer Care. i decided it was time i used my experience of the dreaded breast cancer to some good use. i dont consider myself an expert but just want to help others if i can.it’s now over three years since i was diagnosed and and its been a long road but glad to say i’m feeling more positive every day. i dont think you ever totally get over it but you have to try to live with it. i still feel around for lumps and bumps but doubt i’m the only one doing that!!

well done, and glad to hear that something good has come out of something so horrid. I know when i was diagnosed 2 years ago I was put in touch with a peer support through Breast Cancer Care and she helped me immensely, I would really like to think that one day I would be in a position to do the same.

Good on you! Hi Shirley,
Well done! I too received peer support, we only spoke twice, but because of my age, I felt really isolated when first DX and it really helped to talk to someone else who had been through it all in there twenties and had had the same worries, i.e. fertility etc I too, further down the line, would like to repay the favour, so to speak…
Take care, Lisa x

Feeling for lumps or bumps My mastectomy was in Nov last year so, fairly recently, and I too have become more aware of the remaining boob. Sometimes I get the same feelings as i did in the ‘bad one’ which led to my op. I feel around, but feel nothing. I hope this means it is ok, and there’s nothing too sinister going on in there. I applaud your attitude and wish you well in your voluntary work for Breast Cancer Care. Love xx glo
