When i got home I went through it with a tooth combe and there are a couple of things not covered in the BCC handout, but I bet people on here know.
Bed biopsy—is this just a technical term for the the biopsy they do for margins?? They did talk about margins in the lump they took out but they also did 4 bed biopsies and there were seperate reports for these. I always assumed they cut out an area that was bigger than your lump all at once and looked for margins in this
Radial scar. This was just casually mentioned as an after thought, after everything else the found.
Amazing how much was inside the cyst, a 3.7cm papillary cancer, intensive high grade DCIS, plus lots of invasive ductal carcenoma foci the largest of which was only 7mm, and then this scar.The core biopsy only found the papillary cancer and missed the rest.
Not hugely surprising that the core biopsy didn’t catch everything, if you think about it. The biopsy only takes a little sliver, and cancer isn’t tidy.
The separate biopsy reports, you got the idea. When I had mine, the surgeon took out the tumour, then took out additional slivers, which were all biopsied as well.
Not sure what the radial scar might be, perhaps a call to the helpline might be useful?

A radial scar is a star shaped thickening or hardening of the breast tissue which may or may not contain cancer cells. I presume this what they saw on your mammogram.
Not sure about tumour bed biopsy but I think it may be tumour margins???
no, they did not spot it on the mammogram or the ultrasound. perhaps the big papillary tumor was hiding it.
oh well its out now anyway.
Ive not heard of bed biopsy either just mentions the margin on mine it could be as CM said as you had quite a bit of invaisive they took further biopsies from the site ? yes the tumor could have been hiding it 3.7 cm is quite big, but they got it all out & are happy so thats the main thing

yes, and anything that is left will get zapped by rads or starved by tamoxifan. There was lots of LCIS and tamoxifan is good for that too
