Been referred to Breast clinic

Ok so if you saw my previous posts you will know I went to gp on Monday with lump in breast. He said go away and wait a month to see what happens. Since Monday my breast has swollen, bigger new lump appeared and very firm area across the top. It’s also been very painful. So tried to go back to gp today but couldn’t get in so went to walk in centre. Saw a lady doctor who says I have thickening and a very pronounced lump and a firm area. She said I need to go to breast clinic but she can’t refer me as she is not my doctor!! Now I have to try to get in to see my own doc tomorrow (not going to be easy) and ask him to refer me! I suppose I should be grateful I’m getting somewhere but not happy I have to go back to my gp. It’s so hard to get an appointment there :frowning:

You go to your doctor and demand an appointment is it a surgery with several GPs? If so say you’ll see another one don’t give up you need a referral it’s our NHS it’s there to work for us good luck let us know how you get onx

Hi looby. yes it’s a surgery with loads of GPS. I saw someone this morning but now very upset as he has put me on a 4-6 week referraL. I came out and cried :frowning: said didn’t even examine me. He just read the letter the doc from last night wrote and said he doesn’t think it’s cancer so have to wait. nurse letter didn’t mention any thickening it just said small lumps and a firm area. The doc who wrote the letter said to me there was thickening AND a seperate firm area. I just feel awful now. Really emotional as I know something is not right but the thought of having to wait 4-6 weeks is killing me :frowning: sorry to sound so dramatic but at a real low today. X

I find it incredible that docs can diagnose without even looking, have you phoned BCC helpline in case they can suggest another route to get you seen quicker ?
Big hugs xx

Hi spud girl. No I haven’t. I just assumed that was what was happening and I have to wait. I will call them. Thank you x

Sinfully, I have put a link to the guidelins for GP referral, which is on this site:
breastcancercare.org.uk/node/1153841

This is a quote from it:
“In England, guidance from the Department of Health says that all patients referred by a GP to a specialist with breast symptoms, even if cancer is not suspected, should be seen within two weeks. Until recently, if your GP felt the referral was urgent, you would be seen within two weeks of them requesting an appointment for you. If it was non-urgent you may have waited longer. It may take some time before this guidance is implemented in all areas so if you have queries about the waiting time for your appointment, talk to your GP.”

I know you are on the Wirral which GP surgery are you with?
I had the same with mine and I had had BC 2 years ago He told me to go away for 6 weeks. I went back saw different GP who ref me as non urgent! Had results yesterday of WLE and is IDC grade 3 TN again!!!

I did only wait for 8 days though even as non urgent so dont worry your appt should come through quite quickly???

I am with the Warrens medical centre in Thingwall. Are you in the Wirral too?
Sorry to hear your bad news :frowning: hope you don’t mind me asking but what do the abbreviations mean?
Hopefully I should be seen sooner rather than later. I rang docs to make sure referral was sent and she said yes it went direct to breast clinic in clatterbridge and not to the appointment service which I think is quite positive.

Sorry WLE is a lumpectomy ( Wide local excision ) IDC is invasive ductal carcinoma and TN is triple negative so non responsive to hormone treatment.
I live in Moreton and I was given the forms by GP to phone and book appt so obviously they all do it differently. When I was first dx 2 years ago the GP actually got one of the nurses to phone and book appt while I was still there so different again!
I am sure you will get an appt quite quickly Clatterbridge are very good
I have replied to your anyone in Wirral thread
