Bi lateral scar lumpy numb in sections and tight

I was mentally prepared for my bi lateral and scar but I confess nothing has prepared me for how butchered I look and feel. My operation was 11 aug trying to be upbeat for people and resting and can do excercise a but my issue is the scar. It’s lumpy and very Frankenstein like. I’ve been wearing softies for a few days but on the right side near the centre of my chest there is a small mini lump which rubs – would I be able to ask to have it removed or will it disappear ?

I am to get diep recon next year but will scar settle down? Can feel stitches and it strings in nipple area at times when I sit up when do they star to dissolve ?

I had 12 lymph nodes removed my underarm feels numb tingly is this normal.

I had drains in for around a week they said any fluid would drain into my body but I can feel a build up on both sides can I get it drained by BCN ( whimp ) will it hurt.

Looking at three weeks recovery and going back to work I have an office job how did others get on.

Been two weeks now was hoping to have appt with radiotherapy next week nothing heard did most start rads three to four weeks after surgery.

Feel now with specialist now he got the cancer out been left to it just need to recover

Hello Booksandwine

Whilst waiting for replies you might find it helpful to call our Helpline to talk things over.  They’ll be able to offer practical information as well as emotional support.  The opening times are 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.  The freephone number is 0808 800 6000 and lines are open again in the morning after the bank holiday.

Morning I have just read your post and want to write and let you know about my  scar.

I had breast removed and 11 lymph nodes removed December last year and still haven’t really come to terms with the way I look. Want reconstruction but have to wait another year, however my scar is also lumpy and bumpy and feels numb.  I believe this is quite nomal and my breast nurses tell me that quite often the feeling never comes back properly.

I too wore a softie until the swelling went down but now have my prothesis (and also a water proof one for swimming).

With regard to draining the fluid away _ i had to attend clinic every other day for two/three weeks.  No it doesn’t hurt at all but I was amazed at the amount of fluid that drains out each time.  They couldn’t start radiotherapy until after the swelling had subsided and the scar had healed properly so I have to wait until March/April.

I went back to work after two weeks and even though my arm ached I managed office work quite well helped by an amazing company that have helped all through my treatment.

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks Ann.

Appreciate the comments and feedback hard to know how it should look and feel I am in on Tuesday to see oncologist so I will see BCN also and ask to be drained

Is the wait on the reconstruction your choice. I’m impatient as I want to get rads over with to get on with recon was told six month wait for that

Plan to go back to work next week
