I am new to the forum but have a big decision to make this year and would really welcome some feedback. I had a mastectomy in July 2010 followed by bilateral oophrectomy in August (both ovaries out) as tumour was v E+ and P+. No chemo but 5 weeks of radio which finished in October. I had always planned to have reconstructive surgery so have an expandable temporary implant in now. My problem is that my cancer was lobular with areas of DCIS and LCIS so total size was 10.5cm. Lymph nodes were clear as was other side on MRI scan. I know that lobular has a higher risk of coming back on other side so have to decide whether to have an elective mastectomy on healthy side and a double DIEP. I love playing tennis and am very attached to my remaining breast so am going round in circles with decision making
please let me know if you have had similar issues and also if you have had a double DIEP and how it was, recovery, movement etc. I will be at the Marsden in Fulham probably August. THANK YOU
