Bilateral Mastectomy - I have written a blog!

On the 4 September this year I was diagnosed with invasive ductal ER+ HER- Breast Cancer.  My beloved mum died in February from cancer of the stomach and this year has been the pits.   I have had a lumpectomy, SLNB and Bilateral Mastectomy.   I decided to write a blog to remind myself of the sequence of events and hopefully to help others who may be going through something similar.  I am 49 years old.   I live with my partner, Terri, in Oxfordshire. I would welcome questions, advice etc. My blog contains post surgery photos for information purposes.  this is the link if anyone wants to take a squizz.   Also i anyone else has a blog I would be keen to take a peek!

Hi Dawn. Thanks for sharing your blog. It looks great. I am fascinated by your approach to a bilateral mastectomy and think it’s brilliant that you’ve felt you can share post op photos. Thank you for being brave enough to show folk how it is.

I will be needing a mastectomy and from the beginning I was thinking maybe having both removed would be best. I am stage IIIa so having chemo first so will revisit the question when we come to surgery. I want to throw everything we can at getting rid and it not coming back and, like you suggested, I think there is something about being symmetrical. Also, with both breasts gone, those of us who had pretty big boobs to start with can finally consider wearing polo necks!

I’ve also started a blog although it’s early days for me so only 1 cancer related post so far. If you’re interested I’m at piedalton.tumblr.com

Thank you for your blog Dawn it has given me confidence. Good luck and hugs Suzanne xxxx
