Biopsy dressing

Hi, I had a core biopsy last Friday and should have taken the dressing off on Sunday. They put steri strips and 2 self adhesive dressings on. The SA dressings were layered in a cross pattern. I took the first dressing off but the 2nd one is attached to the steri strips and it’s really sore if I try to take it off. It’s quite bruised under the dressings. Do I just leave it to come off naturally, or do I take it off (painfully!)? I think the steri strips will be pulled off.

Hi @2kittens i was being really squeamish with mine and booked in with a nurse for her to take them off and mine had been on for about 10days, she did say they would of just come off on their own eventually but she was fine removing it for me and they did just peel off.

Hi 2kittens,

Thanks for posting.

It’s not possible for us to say what you should do about the dressings you have in place following your core biopsy last Friday as hospitals use different dressings and have different instructions for how long these need to be in place.

If you have a contact number, you can contact the hospital where you had the biopsy for further guidance. Alternatively, you could contact the practice nurse at your GP surgery. Bruising and soreness can occur after a biopsy, but you can also ask about pain relief to help with this.
