biopsy what to expect

hi i have just got back for the hospital and have been told that i have to have a biopsy under mamagram as they saw something that wasnt in the other breast got to have it done in the next few days dont know how i should feel happy or worried don`t know what they are going to do can anyone shed some light as what to expect. thanks tracy.

really sorry that you have come to this sight.the biopsy really doesn’t hurt once they have done it results take about a wk

the waiting is the worst part off it the only thing i can suggest is keep really busy

there are plenty of people on here to help you along and relly hope you get good results.

hi thanks for your message i was hoping that today would be the end but i suppose deap down i knew something was wrong. just have to wait a bit longer. have been looking on the site since i found out i had to go and see someone. my parents have taken time off so they could take myself and my youngest out the last few days so i don`t have to think about it has helped but think it still at the back of your mind.

thanks tracy

Hi Tracy
When they do biopsy they will use an ultra sound scan to define area and puncture it.They will use a local anaesthetic so all you will feel is them pushing in,it is quick and painless.I had mine on a Tuesday and got results on the Friday.Unfortunately for me it was not good news, but you have to remember that it is not always the case,so hold onto that.
Good luck and take care

hi mary

sorry that yours wasnt good news they told me it would be done with mammogram which i wasnt looking forward to as they had to do a second one yesterday and she told me it would hurt just didn`t relise how much it would hurt. what have they said they will be able to do for you hope they have got to it quick so they can sort it out for you hope so. when i went to the doctor i knew there was something wrong even tho thay said it was nothing told my hubby where they would find something as well turns out that i was right. hope you get good treatment and get it all taken away.

thanks tracy x x

Hi Tracy,
sorry to hear you have all this worry. Your instincts were right that something was going on. The biopsy sounds like a stapler and made me jump because it is close. They had already fired it so I would be prepared but still jumped. I made a point of not looking as a friend had told me that some of the treatments use very long needles. I had local small jabs first to numb it and they were ok and so did not feel the biopsy at all. I had one specific lump, they located it by ultra sound and got it first go, so only had one. You can have more depending on your situation but I promise once it was numbed I did not feel it. I thought it was much better than the fine needle aspirations with no anaesthetic, which hurt. Afterwards I had steri strips put on and got some bruising but did not worry me.
Big hug. Keep us posted

Hi Lily,

thank you i was worried as they didnt say what they would do. the doctor just said that they found something when they did the mammogram just didnt tell me what or anything he wasnt a lot of help. will keep you posted as what happens. what was your outcome if you dont mind me asking…

Big Hug.

Tracy

Hi Tracy

So sorry you’re going through this - it’s the scariest thing in the world. The biopsy isn’t the most pleasant thing in the world, but you’ll have a local anaesthetic to numb the area. As Lily said, it sounds a bit like a stapler and no matter how prepared you are, it’ll make you jump. I had a couple of biopsies which left me with some bruising - my young son was very sweet and gave me a special plaster to make it all better. I coped with it by doing a bit of self-hypnosis - I imagined myself on a beach I love, having a manicure and pedicure whilst sipping an ice cold beer and listening to the waves lapping around me. Made it all much more bearable.

Best of luck with this, and let us know what happens.

Hi Cat.

thank you for your message it has all put my mind at reast a bit. its my sons birthday today and i sent him a text to say happy birthday as hes at work and its the only time this has made me cry knowing there`s something there that could be killing me and i may not be able to tell him happy birthday. i know that more than likely not whats going to happen but having lost someone to bc it makes you think. thanks for letting me ramble on.

tracy x x x

Hi Tracy,
well you can guess that my diagnosis was unfortunately Bc as I am here but I had found it reasonably early so there was a lot to be thankful for. Apparently they were suspicious straight away from the word go with mine because both the mammos and ultra sound looked like cancer. I understand that cysts don’t show up on ultra sounds but cancer shows up black, if I have understood that correctly. I did not know this and was chatting away saying is that black bit the lump, quite innocently!! They got cancer cells with me straight away so I had a quick dx. But sometimes they don’t locate cancer cells but are suspicious, so they take more samples. Some people have more than one area or tiny areas spread out so that is why it depends on your situation. My sister in law had a lump and when they biopsied it, it was fibrous tissue so she had nothing done. My colleague at work had a lump and it was a fibroadenoma and again has been left.
Hold tight till you know

Hi Lily.

Im very sorry that you came back with bc when i went they saw something on my mammogram thats all the doctor would tell me as he couldnt feel a lump that it couldn`t be any thing but the other doctor seemed quite worried about it when she did my untrasound she kept going over the same bit. how are they dealing with your bc hope its not to bad for you. all the messages are helping me a lot to get through this. so with all my heart i say thank you.

HI Tracy
I was dx last Oct, had chemo straight away to try and shrink lump as it was 6cms,had WLE in April, where they took a 4cm lump, basically the bottom quarter of my breast and 21 lymph nodes.Nodes where clear and have been told there is a high chance it won’t return Finished radiotherapy at end of June and have been back in work for 6 weeks,I am having Herceptin until April and have had 8 so far.i went to consultant 2 weeks ago and they are very pleased and don’t want to see me again until October,so looking good now,it has been a tough old year as I was dx the week before my wedding, but we are through the other side now and I feel great…Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Hi Tracy,
I think the very worst bit was thinking have I got it or not, followed by coming home to tell my family, as I felt so anxious for my daughters now. After the initial shock and tears, I went back and the surgeon and everyone else was so positive about beating it, that I felt reassured. The odds are very high these days, about 85% and they have so many different drugs to try if one fails, so I decided to be upbeat about it, mainly for my kids. What could be worse than if one of my daughters was unlucky enough to get it in the future after seeing me losing the plot and being hysterical. They would be terrified. In fact the surgery was ok and I was just scared of being knocked out. I am half way through my chemo but have not been sick so far and have a few bad days, mostly ok days and a lot of good days in each 3 weeks. In between I shop, have lunch out, cinema, same as usual. After chemo I have 15 days of radiotherapy and then 5 years of tablets as a sort of insurance policy. You may not have anything but hey if you are unlucky we are all here, we all cope and we can’t all be lying can we? If you need to, you can and will do this. Promise
Bigger hug as it gets closer

Hi mary

so glad to hear that its getting better for you. just wish i had my appointment so i could get this all sorted just had enough of it now. hope to get the letter tommorrow as they said it would be early this week. someone said at least they are doing it quick but that got me worried as they were doing the tests quick. thanks for all the help you all have given me.x x

tracy x x x

Hi Tracy,
dare I tell you that I cannot eat chocolate, while on chemo. Not because I am not allowed it just tastes disgusting. I nearly dribble when I see people eating galaxy and they try not to let me spot them but if I eat it yukk. I should be getting slimmer. LOL. Well done for quitting smoking and don’t go back to it for anything. I have 3 daughters and one son, they range from 16 to 24. I also have the yummiest little Grandson you ever saw. If you think having kids is fun just wait and see how Grandchildren can burst your heart open!!
Have you got a date for your biopsy yet? Hope you get to know very soon. I am having my 5th chemo dose tomorrow and it is new drugs so sorry if I go a bit mad or disappear for a day or two!!
More cyber hugs
