Bisposphonates and calcium

I could not have my IV treatment as my calcium was too low. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi AneAnne, I haven’t had this problem…are you taking any calcium supplements? I take Adcal D3, the onc prescribed them and I now get them from my GP.

My doctors is closed today but I went to the pharmacy and bought calcium supplements. I will be phoning my GP on Tuesday.
Thanks for your reply belinda

Hi again…I’ve been told to take one tablet a day…some have calcichew tablets instead of Adcal D3…on infusion days it’s recommended you leave a 4 hour gap between taking any calcium tablets and your infusion. Belinda…x

Thanks for that advice, I can have my infusion next week I hope. Will make sure I leave 4 hour gap.

I will also make an appointment to see GP on Tuesday. I probably need to go back to the consultant too. Just wish they kept each other informed. Its hard when you only find out by trial and error.

I do find this site very helpful and appreciate comments from others.
