Hi
I have been on tamoxifen for 15 months. I hate to depress you but you do have to be very careful with what you eat.! I have only put 2 pounds on but to maintain that I only eat 1300 calories a day. ANymore and it piles on and I figure it is easier not to put it on than try and lose it ! The problem is by the time I have eaten all my 5 a day etc etc like a good girl it doesn’t leave many calories for yummy things!
Apart from weight issues I have not had many other side effects at all apart from thrush every now and again What joy! It’s all a pile of c*ap isn’t it? I have also been thrown into a menopause by the chemo at 43 and I was in a fume today when I read that the average age for menopause was 52!!! It’s so unfair.
Best of luck on tamoxifen and let us know how you go on.

I am 38 and I think I am going through the menopause at the moment…grrr… BUT…looking on the positive side of things look at the money I will save every month…if you know what I mean!
Grrr to having to watch what I eat…I don’t want to be fat and forty…so will do my best to take it easy…thank you!

I have managed to lose 3 pounds this week but have had to reduce cal intake to about 1100 if that. I lost a stone after diagnosis through stress but need to lose another three. I want to be at my ideal weight to give myself the healthiest start and also am disturbed by all the media reports that being overweight can cause cancer. The ironic thing is I am a gold member at weight watchers but seem to have “lost the knack”… A year on, I think the side effects of Tamoxifen are calming down now

For me exercise helped enormously to keep the weight down but I still went up from a 12 to a 14 not helped by the antidepressants I was taking as Tamoxifen made me very low and exceedingly hot and sweaty. Arimidex is better. Happy weekend and enjoy the rugby girls!
At 28, I don’t want a menopause either. It’s bad enough losing the hair and a boob. Was watching Sex and the City last night and I was saying to my boyfriend that these days I look like Charlotte’s husband, you know the bald chubby guy!! Hee hee!
I started tamoxifen this week. Have already been getting mild hot flushes since I started getting zoladex injections in June.
In the last few weeks, I keep getting spots on my jaw area. Has anyone else had this problem? Actually, what a mismatch I am: balding, teenage acne, menopausal symptoms, winkles round my eyes…etc etc Ha ha! You have to laugh!
All the best,
Txx
hi
I’ve been on tamoxifen for 3 months and no menopausal side effects and no weight gain. Maybe 3 months is not long enough to know! In fact i’ve lost a little weight!!! The only side effect is heartburn (oesophagitis) which is unpleasent but manageable!
Hope this helps

I have written on the other links to ask the question whether anyone knows if there is a difference between Tamoxifen and Nolvadex, as has been suggested. I went to my Dr this morning to ask for Nolvadex having just been prescribed Tamoxifen and he looke it up in his book and says it is exactly the same thing. He showed me the page, and is more than happyto prescribe it but he can see no difference. Anyway I have said I will give Tamoxifen a go and have had my first tablet. I realy dont want to grow a beard, have thinning hair, fat stomach etc etc. I told my Dr if that happens I will be back for antidepressants! I have always taken care to be slim and healthy and fit and Iam scared middle age is going to appear over night. Help

Well I’m already overweight and have thin hair, so not much joy there. I’m really worried about the hot flushes, haven’t experienced one yet but the imagination is running wild. Is it best to carry spare clothes?
I was told to take the Tamoxifen straight after a meal to avoid heartburn, so far so good.
