Blisters on scalp anyone?

Hello fellow friends,

I had my first FEC chemo 5 days ago and luckily have not been too bad. I already have ulsers in my mouth (and have been REALLY good with oral hygiene!) but have a really itchy scalp which is now turning into little blisters?
I am assuming that it may be the beginnings of hairloss and it goes with the territory but just wanted to see if anyone else had any comments…please

Thanks Hayley x

Hi Hayley,

I had a really itchy head almost straight after my first FEC, but my hair didn’t start coming out until 3 weeks later and even now (2 weeks after 2nd FEC) I still have some, but I have got quite big bits of skin coming off my scalp, a bit like big dandruff, so it may be that I had some tiny blisters. I certainly had a really sore scalp.

As for the mouth, have you got some Difflam mouth rinse? If not, contact your team and get some as it’s really good. Also, FEC dries you out, so I find that drinking at least 2 litres of water a day really helps, along with a really soft toothbrush, and alcohol free mouthwash after the 1st week on Difflam.

Hope this helps a bit

Hi Hayley, yes I had tiny blisters at the very beginning of hair loss, they dried up and came off when I showered and didn’t reoccur. Mine started approx 2 weeks after my first FEC.
I wish you well through the coming weeks
Margaret

Hi Margaret and Kinden

Good to know that I am “normal”. Thanks for that, sometimes feels better to know that you are not alone!

Am having blood test tomorrow so will ask for some Difflam - and yes, I really could/should/must drink more water.

Many thanks for the advice, helpful and much appreciated …and for not commenting on my spelling (ha ha - ulsers - doh - its ulcers you dumbo).

Take care too

Hi Hayley,
I haven’t had blisters on my scalp but did get mouth ulcers after my first FEC - but I get them when I’m run down anyway so I wasn’t surprised that they were one of my side effects. I had my 2nd FEC on Friday and sucked on an ice lolly while the ‘C’ was administered - I’d read about this on another thread and the nurse agreed that it can help - I’ve no mouth ulcers this time but it is only 5 days in so currently reserving judgment but it might be worth a try.
