hi i was just wondering if anyone else has been offered blue badge for parking whilst having treatment. i am confused about it. thanks
Hi
I had a car park pass for the hospital when having chemo and radiotherapy, which I am holding on to for another year while I have Herceptin. It’s not a blue badge though. If yours is I’d snatch it off them so you can use it wherever and whenever you want !
Best of luck

Hi
Wish I could have a blue badge. If I can get in and out from rads in 1/2 hour it’s £1 if not it’s £2.60!!
3 down 17 to go!!
Good luck with your treatment.

Our hospital offers parking ‘notes’ for people who are going to be having chemo but not blue badges as this is normally something that the City Councils issue.
It’ll be interesting to know whether it was actually a blue badge you’ve been offered and what the timescale on it is. We suffer from what is common to most hospitals - not enough disabled parking!

Apparently this varies across the country. I rang my local county council and was told to apply on the usual form. I was also told (off the record) that this would be refused in the first instance but approved when re-submitted/appealed as a temporary badge for the duration of treatment. Unfortunately, my GP “lost” my original form and I had almost completed treatment by the time he found it. The form is straightforward so it’s worth a try.

i just replied and it’s disappeared!!
My understanding is that blue badge permits are issued by the local council and only is applicable if you have great difficulty walking 100m.
Hospital parking charges are a postcode lottery and I’m lucky as all cancer patients pay only £1 per visit.
I have great difficulty walking now and after nearly fainting in the co-op, came out to find my car in ythe disabled bay with my blue permit blocked in by a car with it’s engine running and a baby inside. the mum was just using the cash point!!!

Hi kate
Your understanding of the blue badge is exactly the same as mine and it’s about the difficulty in walking (I have it in my spine) and being able to park nearer the hospital makes a huge difference.
I had a taxi driver block me in once plus I had a ‘set to’ with a woman who used the disabled parking slot (so I couldn’t) because the mother and toddler part was full!
Hope things are a bit easier for you at the mo (I was at the launch back in October as well) - I spoke about the stats and was across the seating from you. I think things are beginning to happen (albeit slowly). I’ve got a GP surgery in our area on board with signs and symptoms of sbc - out of small acorns!
