blue badge??

Hi All,
Does anyone know if we are entitled to a blue badge for cars? I have just moved offices and the car park is much further away than i parked before and finding i am getting tired as i am in and out 3 or 4 times a day. Also i can’t carry things as have lymphodeama. i would be able to use disabled parking nearer if i had a badge. i have never thought of applying for one as i thought you had to prove you couldn’t walk very far?
anyone help on this?

I enquired about a blue badge due to the difficulties I had with fatigue and my lymphoedema and was told that I was not entitled to one as I didn’t have difficulty with walking or mobility (this was back in 2005). I even asked if one could be issued for the duration of the treatment and I was told that it couldn’t be.

On a more positive note I was studying in uni at the time and as those diagnosed with cancer are covered by the DDA 2005 they provided a disabled parking permit allowing me to park in disabled parking bays within the uni grounds as I would get so tired etc. Had I been working at the time I would have asked for my employer to make a reasonal adjustment under the DDA to enable me to continue to work.

Hope this info helps.

To qualify for a blue badge you must experience difficulty walking a specified distance (can’t remember what it is. My mother has one as she has Parkinsons disease and can’t walk any distance without a stick. She also can’t go up and down stairs, and has a stairlift. So effectively the blue badge is not for all people with a disability, it’s for those people with significanct mobility problems.

if you are claiming higher rate disability and mobility - as most women with secondaries are - then you qualify for a blue badge, they really aren’t generally available, just being tired is not enough,
