Body image after a breast cancer diagnosis: In Perspective

Body image after a breast cancer diagnosis: In Perspective

Thursday 3 November 2011, 6.30-8.30pm
Convocation Hall, Church House Conference Centre, London

Dear Breast Cancer Care forum members,

I am delighted to invite you to Body image after a breast cancer diagnosis: In Perspective. This is the third in a new series of events organised by Breast Cancer Care that brings together people working in health policy with people affected by breast cancer to discuss key issues.

This event will look at the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on body image. As an organisation that provides breast cancer support and information services, we know that a diagnosis of breast cancer can alter the way many people feel about their bodies. Changes in appearance during or after breast cancer treatments and the level of practical (for example, hair loss and prosthesis services) and emotional support available can impact on self-esteem and personal relationships. We want to explore how these issues can be best addressed by those who develop health policies and those who plan and deliver health services.

Our guest speakers will include:

· Dr Diana Harcourt, Co-Director of the Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England

· Melanie Lockett, Cancer Counsellor

· One of our Breast Cancer Voices who has personal experience of breast cancer.

There will be time for comments and questions from the audience and, when the formal part of the evening has finished, you will have the opportunity to continue the discussion over some light refreshments.

I do hope that you are able to join us for what promises to be a lively and stimulating discussion. RSVP by 27 October to Emma Skingsley: <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%65%6d%6d%61%2e%73%6b%69%6e%67%73%6c%65%79%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%65%6d%6d%61%2e%73%6b%69%6e%67%73%6c%65%79%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>, 020 7960 3574

I’d have loved to go to this, but a bit of a trek from manchester for an evening event. What a great idea for a seminar though, looking forward to hearing all about it. If anyone from the forum goes, could you post about it on here aftewards please!?! Thanks

Hi all,

Just to let you know, unfortunately we have had to postpone this event.

I apologise for the any inconvenience or disappointment caused.
