Ive just been sent results of my bone density scan --Does anyone know what the results actually mean??? T-score Z-score ??
Spine -Neck-Hip all normal ------Im nearly 70 -so does that mean normal for an old lady???- therefore not much good for anybody else ???
Hi Fluffy,
This web site may help osteopenia3.com/dexascan.html
It took me ages to figure my results out from the numbers.
cheers
Hi,
The ‘T’ score compares your bone density with that of a woman in her thirties and the ‘Z’ with women of your own age. Osteopenia and osteoporosis are diagnosed from the ‘T’ scores.
According to the WHO a ‘T’ score of 1 to -1 is normal, -1 to -2.5 is osteopenia and less than -2.5 is osteoporosis.
So if your ‘T’ scores are normal, that is normal by all criteria!

Thanks surfie - that web site enabled me to really get my head round it .
Eliza - I found it hard to understand what it meant by normal - I now realize that Iam OK !!! at any age !"!! .
I know Im a bit twitchy cos my Mother had really bad osteoporosis which killed her in the end as her spine bent right over and her lungs and heart were all squashed up ( but she did live to 92)
Hi Fluffycat,
It sounds like you don’t have anything to worry about there. I’m in my early 50s and have very mild osteopenia.
