Bone mets

Bondonrat Thanks Dilly just got mail to go for a bone scan tomorrow. Got blood taken last Thursday, and the hand is still bruised, I’m sure they’ll get a vein if the can see it through the black and blue shades!

Bondronate Hi Spike
Didn’t have any problem with the tablet, other than the hassle of the timings. I found because of lack of energy it was difficult to discipline myself to sit up early in the morning. That sounds feeble. Apparently very important to wait the hour before eating as once you take food the absorption stops. That is why they are changing me to IV the instructions I read said only 1/2 hour before eating then staying upright for 1 hour, so she reckons that is my problem. Cost wise my hospital used to give me the pills but then perhaps 1 year ago transferred to the GP because the price had gone down. It also was on my GPs approved list, maybe once again due to the post code! Had a look at my scan taken 6 months ago and when you see the number of black spots, its gets a bit scary.
All the best Spike

Ziggy IV’s give much better absorption regardless of how long you wait before eating. You should feel benefit if youhave aches - if not next bonescan/MRI should look a bit better- NB bonescans and MRIs can’t be compared so whichever you’ve had you need the same one next time to see if things are improving. Best wishes, dilly

oral bondrate Hi

Can i just add my experience of the oral bisphs. My Onc advised me to take two each night as they would probably work better through the night (no risk of getting up and having midnight feasts I suppose) but if I was unable to tolerate taking two together, then have one in the morning and one at night. Fortunately I have been OK but it is important to drink at least two LITRES of water each day and that can be a bit of a pain if you go out during the day. I usually try to stop eating after 7 pm at night and take the tablets just before 10. so that I can sit up for an hour before going to bed. ( what an exciting life I lead now ).

good luck with the oral bisphs

Barbara

Hello Barbara, looking at your profile I see you are taking Bonefos.
There’s a (newer …I think) oral bisphos called Ibandronate which is just one tablet a day…you take it with a glass of water in the morning…wondered if you might find it easier.?.I’ve been taking it for a few months now and have no side effects.

Ooops PS…Barbara just seen you are also taking Arimidex…hope it’s working well for you…I’ve had 2 very good years so far with Arimidex…(it’s mentioned in my profile)

bondronate Thanks Dilly, had bone scan yesterday, so will get the results when I go to the onc at the end of April. Having the IV on Tues so will also find out what they are giving me then.
All the best

bone mets Hi Belinda

thanks for the info on the new bisphs. I did some research on the internet about alternative bone strengthening tabs and found out about a trial of IV Zolondric acid but when i mentioned it to the Onc on the last visit he didn’t really seem very bothered and told me i was doing fine on the bonefos. So no change there!!! but i will mention it on next visit.I am doing ok with the Arimidex but I didn’t have any problems with Tamoxifen either. He told me that Arimidex can work for several years which seems to contradict what some of the ladies on the forum have been told by their specialists. I am trying now to just get on with life although I do panick whenever I feel a twinge anywhere.
