Bone Mets

I hope you don’t mind me posting here but i am really worried about results of my bone scan and Alkaline phosphatase levels in my blood. I saw mention of Alkaline phosphatase in another post but did not want to hijack it. My levels have been creeping up three months ago they were a 118 now they are up to 124. I had a bone scan due to pain in right hip. The scan showed a hot spot on my rib the consultant said it did not have the typical appearance of cancer. I have been told by my breast care nurse that they are not going to follow this up unless i have more pain and i should try to move on with my life. I am finding this really hard to cope with as i think the cancer has come back especially with the results of my bone scan and bloods. sorry about going on i know some of you are dealing with a lot worse than me but at times i am so scared.

Hi bluebells,

I am sure it must be very worrying if you are watching the results of your blood tests and seeing changes. Why dont you ask either your GP or your BCN if you have one to explain them to you. I know that there are many many drugs we take that can raise the levels of Alk phos. I suspect that the difference from 118 - 124 is not of any great significance.

Hi Bluebells

Please feel free to call the helpline for a chat to one of our specialist nurses about the results, they will be able to give you further information, advice and support. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm.

Best wishes

Breast Cancer Care

Hi Bluebells

I think it might have been me who mentioned about my Alk Phos - last year mine was 497 and I think it was pretty obvious to the hospital that my spine had become active again. The normal range is somewhere between 40 - 120 and I’ve varied quite a lot over the last three years, going right down to 112 6 weeks ago but they have crept up to 126 last week but I still feel well and my oncologist isn’t that concerned that they have risen a bit. As Dawn says there may be other reasons for the rising of it but if you’re still worried maybe it would be a good idea to either talk to your hospital or ring Breast Cancer Care.

Take care.
