Borderline Rad

Hi - I’ve been reading other posts about having to make a choice on radiotheropy or not. I am very borderline - Grade 1 stage 2(22mm) with LVI. After lumpectomy and then a shave I had a mastectomy on the left breast. . MArgins are now oK. There is a history of heart problems in the family. I am scared of the long term side affects of Rad but also so not want to put my young family through this again. any advice?

Hi mop, If you are feeling brave enough then I advise you to take the rads if you can. I say this because I presume you have kids - I too have a youngish family (2 kids aged 11 & 13) and I needed them to know that I had done EVERYTHING possible to get better. I had WLE & SNP in Oct, 6 x FEC chemo and have just finished my 15rads. I had to do it all for my own piece of mind. My own rads were on my right side and I understand your concerns about your heart, but you have to weigh up the options and make a choice on what path you think is best. I have had a few side effects, soreness underneath and a little back ache but I was willing to go through that for the chance to be cancer free (I know we can’t say we are ‘cancer free’ but as good as!) Who knows if my cancer has gone but if it does come back then there will be no ‘what ifs’ and no guilt. The rads are painless and the treatment quick so you have no worries there. Good luck with your decision and take care  xxMxx
