Hi all,
After my ld flap operation in Edinburgh. I woke wih a bra on. My surgeon said it was very important to wear one. They provided me with front fastening bras.
After I was home, I spoke to a friend who had the same operation in Inverness. She was told not to wear a bra.
It may be luck, but my new boob is really soft, and hers is hard. We both had small implants as well.
I ended up with quite a few bras as my boob got bigger. I still wear them now for comfort
.
I have 2 spare roycee size 40 bras that are to big for me. They are in good condition and dont just want to put them in the bin. The also have a pocket if you did not have reconstruction.
If anyone wants these, please private message me with your name and address. And I will post them to you.
Did most of you wear bras right after your operation?
Hi mandyt001
I too woke up wearing a bra and was told to wear it 24 x 7 for up to 8 weeks. I purchased another to do the wash and wear bit. Its now 9 weeks and I have moved into substantial support bras during the day but still wear the front fastening full body bra at night as it is comfortable. My shape is very good and when wearing a low cut sexy bra you would never know I had received a reconstruction. Like you, boob is soft. Hope everything is going ok for you, especially if you are having further treatment.
Hi - this is news to me I am due to have a LD recon next friday - what should I take with me?
I have a soft bra front fastening (2 of these) from Mastectomy surgery ?
Also what was it like waking up to a reconstruction - I cant wait !!!
I am intrigued…i had mx and ld recon 8 weeks ago and have only started wearing proper bras in the last week. I have had probs with wearing anything due to wounds not healing but i’m really suprised some of you wake up and are told to wear them 24/7! How can the advice be so different? maybe is to do with size? i am naturally an a cup and the recon was a b.
I have had a mare tryin to find bras. THe recon one is currenty the width of a c cup but i dont have the fullness and the other is stil an a! I went to a specialy trained fitter a M&S but she didnt suggest front fastenin ones. Where can i get them?
Alison, good luck for he recon. i found it strange waking up as i had mx and recon all at once so woke up with one much bigger boob! I was gobsmacked how big it was, but the swelling went wihin 10 days and i now have a great clevage. Once i get the other one enlarged then i’ll be even, but i’m in no rush.
I too didn’t wake up with a bra on and had LD recon at the same time as Lou, in fact same surgeon, one week apart. Have been told by surgeon that it is important to wear support but with a back wound right where any bra would go its difficult. I wore secret support tops after I left hospital and on and off for 5 weeks (the off being suggested by my OH that it was delaying recovery and healing as my back scar still refused to heal). I rarely wore my post mx royce bra for the same reasons. Now 7 weeks post surgery and with wound re-opening I haven’t worn any support for 2 weeks. I am worried about the effect on my recon boob but what can you do? My recon looks good (I was a DD before) but has dropped a little post surgery and is liable to indentations from underwear or arms or anything resting on it too long but I put that down to the fact that my boob hasn’t realised its not a muscle anymore. Its not soft though but that maybe because I had an implant too as not enough back muscle/tissue.
Strange the conflicting advice eh but what you supposed to do if your wound coincides with the bra strap?
Found it difficult, if not impossible, to sleep, in the weeks post surgery without some kind of support be that a secret support top combined with a pillow between boobs or just the pillow alone. Would not have managed without some nighttime support as was only able to sleep on opposite side to surgery.
Thanks - what is the ‘secret support top’ and where do I get one !
I am DD so will need to wear some sort of support expect to be lopsided until April…hadn’t thought about the back scar and wearing a bra ! I was given a bra - t-shirt material front velcro fastening - after my mastectomy.
Thanks for the tips - !
Secret support are the type of strappy vest tops that most places sell, M&S, Matalan etc for the summer when you don’t want multiple straps going on. They dont have cups but an inner layer with an elasticated band to give you support so you dont look bra-less. They are still available in the shops this time of year I think.
Wow how strange it is to have conflicting reports!
I had a reconstruction last year where they took the skin and fat(?!) from my abdomen. I was told to wear a bra when I felt ready. Hmm I never did.
This year the cancer returned and they removed 1/2 - 1/3 of the reconstruction in March, and then did a skin graft, and only about a month ago have I felt comfortable about wearing a bra. I wear front fastening ones which I have sent over from the UK.
I had 1st LD recon in January this year and did not start wearing a bra for a few weeks, after 2nd recon in June I wore a bra straight away. I can tell a difference between the two now and regret not wearing a bra sooner first time round. The first side is not such a good shape and sits lower and more under my arm than the second. The only trouble is I am now concerned about the scar on my back on the side done in June. After a day wearing a bra the scar has gone almost black where the bra sits across the middle and I am worried it is going to break down. I was thinking of starting a thread to see if this had actually happened to anyone.
I had LD recon on the 22nd Sept and my back scar has broken down. I didn’t wear a bra only secret support tops and yet 2 weeks ago (5 post op) it went. June is a long way ago so I would be surprised if it was going to break down now but I would get it checked. My muscle under my arm is prouder than I would like and I guess wearing a bra would help flatten it but I am stuck in the secret support tops until I am healed. Good luck, x
God i dont know how you ladies manage with the weight of a dd implant! My B cup recon feels soooo heavy to me and i still cant get used to actually having a chest. I do however have an wierd squaring off of the boob on my arm side. The clevage is great but it tapers down rather than around. Doc thinks scar tissue is too blame but i massage it all the time and it had made no difference!
Oh well i still prefer a square cornered boob to a missing one.
