Brain mets - how did you know?

Hi ladies,
I wondered if any of you with brain mets could share your symptoms? My onc isn’t worried about secondaries even though I didn’t complete chemo after surgery for my primary last year - but I am!
I am ER+ but HER- and am on tamoxifen since Dec 2012. Recently I’ve been getting what feels like pressure in my head over the right eye and back of my skull/neck, rather like the right side of my head is in a vice, and stabbing ‘ice pick’ headaches over my right eye. I also fainted (when having a cannula inserted for a chest scan) and had a bit of a shaking ‘do’. I have the usual brain fog and twitching muscles from mirtazapine but I’m now worrying I have brain mets. I had a head CT in Dec 2012 and didnt hear anything about the results so assume I was clear then.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa xx

Hi Lisa I have been having the same concerns too and feelings just like you,my left eye waters s lot and I get sharp pains on my left side, I was dx January 2012 with lobular grade 3 I had mastectomy but failed to do the chemo I just couldn’t I was so terrified I did rads and tam, I’ve been having a clicking in my neck too. It is such a worry I know I was hoping someone would have replied to you hopefully perhaps they may now. Do you find your any more sleepy Lisa. Not so much during the day but I’ve always been an early bird and the last few months I’m still in bed at 8 it’s just not like me at all. I hope we can be reassured we are ok hugs. Jane xxx

Hiii…I was just coming to end of my chemo for inflammatory breast cancer…When I suffered a fit…and ‘‘episode’’ the A &E docotor said!!! over next few weeks I had a couple more…the paramedic said to my daughter secondary brain cancer…he knew!!! Admitted to hosp…MRI and ct scans…showed 2 mets in my brain…

I had no symptoms like headaches…Before diagnosed I had tension in my neck…feeling my neck was’stuck’ which of course it was the muscles seizing up…slight eye problem like a migraine (although never had migraines) shineing movements and of course still receiving very strong chemo…so not sure what I was experiencing…I also have experience muscle weakness in my  arm and leg

Please write all your syptoms down and present to your ONC on next appointment…This is all prob nothing but being streesed is not the way to go. I wish you well…

Hi Lisa

I was diagnosed with lung, liver and bone mets in May 2011. I kept being really sick throughout this time until my onc realised after a phone call from my husband that when I was on the steroids (Dex) for 2 days after chemo I wasn’t sick, but as soon as I stopped taking them the sickness came back. He made the connection , I went in for a scan and lo and behold , there were the little blighters!

So yes, headaches and auras are a good indicator, but mine was the constant sickness. Hope this helps xxx
