i was dx brca1 positive earlier this year, my parents have both been tested and have negative results. i have been told by genetics specialist that this is the first finding of this kind and are going to write a case paper on the results they have found.
dont know if this just relates to my area in hampshire so was wondering if anyone else have had the same results ?, dawn x
Hi Dawn,
Sorry to hear you are BRCA 1 but good news that your parents have tested negative. A ‘negative’ result can be misleading if 100% of the gene wasn’t tested. Some areas only test 65 - 75% of the gene so I would ask the question and check the percentage tested. A mutation has to start somewhere, and though rare it could have started with you. Genetics is such a minefield!!
Best wishes xx
thanks helen, you are not wrong about the ‘minefield’, just as i start to think i understand what ive been told i get more info just to confuse me again !!
i will ask when i go with my daughter for her results in december about the % tested and thanks for your best wishes, dawn xx
