Hi, Im a 34 year old woman, last year i found out that I had the BRCA2 gene through genetic testing. Straight away i wanted to have the operation to have both my breasts removed and reconstruction, but i wanted to speak to someone who had gone through the operation before, before i made my decision. Unfortunately, no-one from the clinic wanted to speak to me about their experience, so i am still waiting. I would like to talk to someone about the operation. Is there anyone on here willing to have a chat and so i have all the information i need?
Thanks
R

Hi Clare
I am so happy for you that you had a good meeting with your new consultant. Very positive, and encouraging for you.
I’m seeing a family history person Monday to see my risk percentage now. With not having ovaries and nearly 60.
My son had his results back and he as not inherited the gene which is good , they have two daughters.
Perhaps it’s going down the female line.
Keep in touch and I will email after Monday. Have a good weekend. X J
Hi Clare
I’m so so sorry to hear about your brother also having the brca. I’m so sorry too that until I read your message I thought I had repied to you .
I saw the family history person 21 May but it was unadventful , she wa suppose to tell me my risk now , I’m actually 60 today . She said 10% but I said the National average is 12%
She said they work it out up to 70 and it’s between 1 and 2% . Do that could be 20% which is high .
I had my mind made up if under 15% to stay as I am but 20% is high . So I’m totally confused.
Hi there, I’m also brca2 carrier and having only recently found out at age 35 feel I’m facing a similar outcome to you.
I have consultations re mastectomy and I know it’s the right thing to do for me, my predicament right now is deciding weather to try for a family first and then have the surgery? Due to covid it’s not looking possible for surgery for me until summer 2021 so I fear if we don’t start a family soon I may risk being able to have a family at all.
after going through the surgery do you imagine you could have done that after your children were born?
I just feel a little stuck time wise and not sure which is the best option for me
hi ruth
thank you so much for sharing your journey .
my genetics results came back on 22.1.2021 brac2. i had left my breast removed april 2020 after MRI scan and biopsy i had confirmed i had 2 tumors and my receptors was positive . After surgery they confirmed there was 3 tumors and took lymph nodes.
i was lucky at that time my lymph was clear and a oxy test showed i had a low percentage of it returning. But i have had recent core biopsy on the lymph in my armpit on the left side due to swelling . then i had my geneticists confirmed. my head is in a spin but i will make the right decisions for me . like yourself im 34B/C and now i will be considering reconstruction as i will be having the other breast removed and dont now much about implants etc .
thankyou again
