I have recently had a silicon implant put into my ‘good’ side, to try and match the silicon implant I have had put in, after having a mastectomy. I had a tissue expander put in, immediately after my mastectomy but the valve on it wasn’t working properly and wouldn’t expand over a certain size. So I had to have that taken out and a new expander put in, then I finally had that removed and had a silicon implant put in.
I have two problems now, firstly the side with just an implant and no breast is much smaller than the augmented side. Secondly on the side that has been augmented and still has a breast, my nipple is really painful and I’m really worried that the pain is permanent and I have made a big mistake having it done.
I have had six operations in the last 18 months, so I’m used to pain, but this is really worrying because it is so sensitive. I know lots of people have it done for purely cosmetic reasons, so I didn’t think there would be a problem. Has any body else had this type of reconstruction and can let me know if it is normal for the nipple to be painful and sensitive, and will this disappear? I had the operation three weeks ago.
