Breast cancer recurrance in 22% of women

Hi
Just wondered if anyone else has seen this study done by Jimmy’s up in Leeds. Statistics make for pretty grim reading. Although it doesn’t take give information on grades and stage of the women in the study. I’m particularly concerned about it.

Breast cancer: Leeds study highlights need to focus on recurrence

The latest snapshot study by Macmillan Cancer Support found 22% - just over one in five - saw the disease return.
Half of the patients who developed recurrent disease did not get any new tumours for over three years.
worrying indeed

don’t forget the women followed in this small study had their treatment in 1999,new chemo’s have come along since then and also i don’t think herceptin was used for primary HER2 positve at that time. And as it says " Experts say the chances of recurrence vary enormously depending on the age of the woman, the type of cancer, how it was treated and when it was diagnosed"

Really? I didn’t know that I wish when they report on things on the news they would give us the full picture rather than sweeping statements
