Breast feeding after breast cancer?

Breast feeding after breast cancer?

Breast feeding after breast cancer? Hi

Wondered if anyone could share any experiences of the above.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Oct 2005, 7 weeks after a miscarriage. I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy and took tamoxifen for 9 months. I am 40 years old.

I am now 29 weeks pregnant  My good breast is growing and changing as per expected with pregnancy, but my ‘cancer’ breast is not really responding and can be quite painful at times, more so than the other (I’m told it’s as the good breast tissue tries to pull away from the scar tissue).

I have been told that I may be able to breast feed from the ‘cancer’ breast, but it may be too painful. Or I just might not lactate at all. Its a ‘wait and see’ game.

Just wondered if anyone has previous experience of this they can share.

Thanks
Bev

Bev,

Firstly…Congrats on being pg. (I’m an ‘older’ Mum too, had my son 2 days before my 40th!!)

Secondly…I know a lady who breast feds very successfully from one breast only (she doesn’t have BC but something else has stopped one breast producing milk). She has been breastfeeding for 14months now.

Good luck when the time comes.
