Breast Infection four weeks after Lumpectomy

Well I was doing so well, scars healed well, started Tamoxifen, went to radiotherapy planning session on Friday 12th May where due to barious problems positioning arthritic shoulder, my poor breast was stretched painfully for long time.

That evening noticed pink skin and some swelling, ok thought bit inflammed due to stretching.

But Saturday pinkness spread from around nipple outwards, became sore.

Sunday more spreading so decided to call breast care nurse Monday, good job I did as worse by then.

Monday nurse said come in to be seen.

So long trip to hospital clinic, saw nurse she though just inflammed, saw surgeon and diagnosed with infection, given strong penicillin and another antibiotic. Told radiotherapy may be delayed (meant to start end of May) due to swelling and condition of skin.

So last night and today very sore, pain inside breast, hoped it would start to get better but no sigh yet.

Feel ill, temp, chills, so sore.

So rather sorry for myself, shared on radiotherapy thread but got no responses, wanted to know if others had reaction to rads planning session?

I was in starnge way looking to end of tunnel after radiotherapy, now all seems dark and gloomy.

Will it get worse? what can I do? tears flow, Tamoxifen exhausting, enough change to my body.

I have never had infection in breast, even when breast feeding four babies. Though had blocked ducts.

Anyone had same?

Need some reassurance this just bump on the journey :frowning:

hi Meri,
Sorry to hear you’ve got this additional hassle in recovering form all this.
It may be just a coincidence that the infection came out around the time of the rads planning appointment & it may well have occurred anyway.
Anyway, the antibiotics will soon sort it out & it will move on. Hope you feel better soon.
