Bristol cancer care

Hi everyone
Has anyone gone to the Bristol cancer centre. They are doing these 3 day courses , 2 a month , it looks really good . They help you in all kinds of ways , any way i have prov booked a 3 day course in september, i,m going to take my eldest daughter with me , she may find it helpful too. Also it will be nice to get away and speak to people in the same boat. If anyone else has been let me know what it was like , would love to know . Take care x

Hi Carol

I really want to do one of these courses but having a nightmare at the moment with the logistics of who can look after my children, elderly mother, animals etc - hopefully will get it all synchronised at some point! In the meanwhile I’ve booked to go on a one-day nutrition course in June which I hope will give a good taster - will let you know how I get on. Everyone I’ve spoken to who’s been there says it’s fabulous.

I haven’t been but one of friends went a few years ago.

Not only did she have a really good experience but she meet someone who refered her to a surgeon in London who not only operated on her sternum where she needed it but but also on her lung and she’s been NED since!!!
Her oncologist wasn’t going to let her have the opp!!!

Hope you have a very productive time too!!!

Hi everyone
I think Bikinggirl is talking about me.
I went to Bristol Cancer Centre (now Penny Brohn) three and a bit years ago when newly diagnosed with secondaries to lung and sternum, and desperate.
It was a strange experience and there were bits about it that were tremendous and bits that weren’t really me. I am not very álternative’ and I am not very comfortable talking about my feelings in a group of people - I found that quite difficult. Also, I needed a good meal, alcohol and chocolate, but again I suspect that’s just me!
That said I also had a magical time in many ways and by the end of the week we all enjoyed a tremendous bond, which gave us much support - even though I think most of the people on my course have mow passed away.
It also - indirectly - saved my life. I met a lady there with lung cancer who told me about the surgeon in London who I eventually contacted. He agreed to operate on me when my local hospital wouldn’t - and I have been NED ever since.
I do think this sharing of information between patients is vital, and not just between those with breast cancer, but also other cancers as in my case. My surgeon was a lung cancer expert which is why he agreed to tackle my secondaries - to him it was fairly routine!
If anyone wants to know any more please pm me or you can get me on our secondary support website.
Take care all
Justy
