Calcichews, Fosamax and Upset Tummy
Calcichews, Fosamax and Upset Tummy Started taking Calcichews on Thursday and have had an upset stomach since Friday morning. Almost didn’t want to start taking the Fosamax yesterday, but did and now feel even worse! Has anyone else had a similar reaction just from taking calcium and vit D supplements? If so, any suggestions to combat the SE’s and feel human again?! I feel so sick it’s almost like going through chemo again… And this is on top of the AI SE’s which have got me feeling fluey and staying home from work today! HELP!!!

GET WELL SOON cant help as not on these meds but wanted to say hope you feel better soon.when you do we must meet up in Borders for coffee.thinking of you from sunny Bridgend sharon x
Mel had Cs for a whle. No upset tum but a bit constipating.
My daughter’s GP seems to know more than mine - this lovely lady told daughter when she asked about Arimidex and bone thinning that too much calcium was as bad as too little. She sent D for bone density scan [good thing her bones were a lot older than she was] and put D on Fossamax.
My good GP responded to my questions with Calcichews. After a month my dodgey neck became awful. Stopped the Cs neck got better - could have been coincidence. My GP caught up with the Arimidex bone thinning and put all his Ari pts on Fossamax. It didn’t upset my grotty old insides at all.
Mel can’t help with SEs and AI SEs as don’t know what they are. Hope that the nausea feels better soon. Am getting thro second lot after failing on Morphine AGAIN so sympathise deeply.Find ginger is good plus stewed/baked apple and salty little crackers- soda water too.
Best wishes for happier tum, dilly
Thank you both for your replies. I’m feeling a lot better today, just mild nausea now. Fresh air and walks seem to be helping.
Sharon - Yes, we have to get ourselves organised and meet in Borders, although it may be for a peppermint tea, rather than a coffee!
Dilly - I’ve been prescribed both Calcichews AND Fosamax as I’ve gone and broken my sternum as a result of the bone damage from rads and the cancer itself eating into the breastbone. But your post has got me wondering whether I’m overdosing on calcium and/or vit D, because I’m also taking my usual multivitamins and minerals, cod liver oil and vit C and zinc… I rattle if I take the stairs too quickly! Might try leaving the supplements for a while and just taking what I’ve been prescribed. Hope we both get relief soon!
Big hugs,

feeling revolting - angelfalls Hi Mel, Hope you are felling a bit more human now? Ive just started taking PROTOS 2g, apparently a new drug which is better than fosamax?? Dont know if you get it over there, I think its just new here in Australia, maybe worth looking into. You dilute it wih water at night . Take care,
Regards
Suzy
Thanks, Suzy. I am feeling a lot better now. May just have been one of those things and not related to the tablets at all! Still, it’s always good to hear about new alternatives (especially if they’re more effective), and I will definitely take note of the name to ask my onc next time I see him.
All the best to you,
Mel
