Can a begnine lump eventually turn cancerous?

Can a begnine lump eventually turn cancerous? I found a lump about 1/2 the size of an apple in my right breast when I was 19. I went to a specialist and got some testing done, then a needle biopsy. The results came back begnine. I asked my Dr at the time if I should have it removed and she said that is wasn’t necessary and b/c of the size would leave a pretty big dent in my breast. I am now 25 and the lump is still with me…it’s a little smaller and has moved towards the middle of my breast. I’ve tried to put it out of my mind the last few years, but have also become involved with AMC Cancer Research and Susan G Komen where I have become a little more knowledgable about breast cancer…I still don’t know alot …but what I’ve learned has definitely scared me a little.

If I was tested and it came back begnine, is there any chance of it becoming cancerous one day? And would you recommend getting the lump taken out?

Thank you in advance for your answers and suggestions…
