my sister has BC with liver mets. Was admitted to hospital, very confused, and de-hydrated. Scan has shown a blood clot in the liver, not sure what this means. Can anyone help?
Hi Bridie
Don’t know much about this but another lady (Allie) posted a similar question a little while back. She’s now on anti-coagulants. The thread was called Clot in portal vein.
Best wishes
Kay
Hi Bridie,
Just saw your post, yes I have a clot in my portal vein, it wasn’t totally blocking the flow but seemed to be messing around with my LFTs. They haven’t admitted me but I have to give myself an injection of Clexane every day
Hope your sister is better soon,
Allie
Thank you Allie
my sister also has to inject herself with Clexane, and hopefully will be back to her old self soon. She has been amazing throughout all her treatment, and we are hoping and praying her Oncologist will allow her back on the tykerb trial next week. Fingers crossedx
Hi Bridie,
Is your sister out of hospital yet? I will keep my fingers crossed for her too

Yes she is out of hospital, had her ascites drained, and has to inject Clexane for up to three months to try and disperse the clot in the portal vein. She seems back to her normal cheerful, optimistic self and said she would be able to restart the tykerb / capacitabine trial next week if all goes well. We don’t know yet whether it has had any effect on the tumours but she has just finished her second cycle, and has an appt next week at the hospital.
