I think this seems like a silly question but would a bone scan - the one you have in nuclear medicine, would that pick up something not in the bones? The doctors letter mentioned scarring on the lungs from radiotherapy, would a bone scan pock this up? Also I had the scan just 2 weeks ago and am now worried, I can feel a lump in my left breast but it doesn’t feel like before, more of a ridge. I just can’t remember if it has always felt like this, which is odd as I checked them last month. I had my mammogram in January(second since surgery)and the bone scan just 2 weeks ago cos of pain in my sides. Both were clear.
My breast has a kind of ridge now. I check my breast monthly (using the ‘Coppafeel’ reminder texts) and have a better understanding of the feel of the tissue post-cancer ( diagnosed October 2020), although have contacted the breast clinic twice to have the differences I now feel checked. They do feel different, but then I’m checking them more than I did before and so maybe they always felt like this. Contact your breast care nurse if you’re worried- that’s what they’re there for.
Thankyou x
Hi sprout78,
Thank you for posting.
It’s understandable that you feel worried about the ridge you have felt in your breast. As @JeanAnn has said, it’s common for breasts to feel different and have hardened areas after surgery and radiotherapy for breast cancer, this can be caused by different things such as scar tissue. We would always recommend letting your breast care nurse or treatment team know about any changes to the breast so they can check this for you. It is important to continue to be breast aware and to have any new or persistent changes assessed by your treatment team.
You can also ask them about the lung scarring mentioned in your letter. Lung scarring can happen as a side effect from radiotherapy.
