Cancer Counselling Trust closing down!!!

I have had an e-mail from the Cancer Counselling Trust saying that they are winding down with a view to closure on 1st September as they have been unable to secure large funding bids.

I had 9 sessions over the phone from the trust shortly after being diagnosed. I don’t know how I would have coped without it. They asked for a donation rather than a set fee which meant that it was open to anyone instead of just those who could afford it. The fact it was a telephone service also meant it was open to anyone in the country. The counsellor I had specialised in counselling people with breast cancer and it was an incredibly professional service.

I wish I was wealthy and could give them a lump sum. If anyone has any ideas on what I could do in terms of who I could write to etc I’d be very grateful. I was thinking it would be good to get something like the BBC or a national newspaper involved. Aslo thought of writing to one of those large banks but would they take any notice …

Be grateful for any ideas.

Monin,
There’s already a topic on this subjest from a coupla days ago-under CCT-.
I agree thats it disgusting that a charity who help such a broad spectrum of people in crisis is having to close.
Hope my MP will be willing to lobby on my behalf.

I had missed the earlier post. Whatever we do needs to be very quick though as the closing date is so imminent.
I had also thought about approached BCC to see if they could fund but like Snowwhite’s idea of maybe seeing if they could take in the counsellors for their own service. Would be a shame to lose access to all that specialist knowledge.

Hi
Just wanted to let you know I’ve seen these posts and am trying to find the best person at Breast Cancer Care to pass your ideas/requests/concerns to.
Leah

Thanks Leah that’s great.

Just a quick update: I passed your concerns on and we are now talking to the Cancer Counselling Trust to see if there is anything we can do. We are not a grant-giving organisation, but there might be something we can do to ensure that people can still access the services they need.

Thanks Leah. I think it will be a huge loss for breast cancer patients particularly those like me who live in quite rural locations and can’t easily access support groups etc. Let’s keep everything cross they keep running.
