Cancer Drugs Fund/ Trastuzumab in News Headlines 23.4.14

This is nothing to do with me really as I had only primary BC, but I was alarmed to hear this scheme is ending in 2016.  Also that trastuzumab will not be available on the NHS after this time.  This is probably old news to many on the forum. Does this mean that patients will have to have it privately/are already having it privately?

It seems that BCC has already made a response to this,

breastcancercare.org.uk/news/blog/secondary-breast-cancer-drug-t-dm1-kadcyla-not-recommended-nice?utm_source=Homepage&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=NICE turns down secondary breast cancer drug T-DM1 (Kadcyla)

(I hope this link works! If not, go to the BCC home page, which is where I found it).

I’m not a Herceptin lady myself, but the discussion is about a modified form of trastuzumab (aka Herceptin), Kadcyla, also known as T-DM1, rather than the standard Herceptin.  But if this isn’t so, someone more knowledgeable will explain, I hope.

At least you have a drug fund in England, unfortunately there is no such luxury in Scotland :(.  Makes me furious to think that the Scottish government spends so much money on their parlament, a new tram line in Edinburgh and that stupid useless independance campaign, but no drug fund for cancer patients.
