Hi All
My mum has been told she has a complicated cancer, its in the connective tissue of the breast. Not the ducts or lobes. my mum has a huge lump, dont know exact size but bigger than a tennis ball. This has all happened in the last 6 weeks, my mum has also been ill, unable to work, walk or eat. Has any one had this? She is having bones and liver scans next week. They have also changed consultants, she will see him the week after. Her current consultant has said he is very concerned because it has got so big and how her health has rapidly declined.
Hi Bridget,
I’m sorry I can’t tell you anything about your Mum’s cancer, but I just wanted to reply and let you know someone cares. This all sounds like it’s progressed very fast and must be really frightening. How old is she?
I have secondaries in my liver and although it sounds terrifying, I feel quite normal (except for the side-effects of treatment!) and there are many of us on this site living with liver and bone and other secondaries, and some have been for many many years.
Let’s hope the new consultant is better qualified/more experienced in her type of case - I expect so.
It has to be said that the waiting is actually much worse than knowing what the situation is. Everyone seems to find that once you know what you’re dealing with, and there’s a plan of treatment, it all feels a whole lot more manageable. Also you don’t feel so alone with it as there’s a team of people fighting it with you.
Just try to keep each other going for the next week or two. Drop everything else and just do what she and you and the family need to, to keep your heads above water.
She is lucky she has such a caring supportive daughter.
Feel free to keep coming on here and get it all off your chest, if it helps you.
Let us know how she gets on
love Jacquie
Hi Jacquie
Thanks for your comments, your right the waiting is hard. it has progressed very fast, the decline in her health makes me think it has spread, but i suppose you always think the worst, until you know. She is 57 and as i said this has all happened in the last 6 weeks. Tests are this week and an appointment with the consultant for week after, i let you know how it goes.
Hope your ok, glad you dont feel too unwell, are you having chemo. the consultant did say that she will probably be given chemo for 6 months, got to wait and see.
Take Care
Bridge
No, I’m on Tamoxifen and Herceptin now, so i go every 3 weeks for the Herceptin intravenously. I finished chemo at the end of November. I’ve got a CT scan tomorrow to see if the T and H are working, so I’ll be getting jumpy for the next ten days waiting for the results.Thinking of you this week and next week seeing the consultant. Let’s hope you get good answers,
All the best
Jacquie
