Hello I would like to get some feedback on Capcetabine please. My sister will be starting oral chemo this week and I’m wondering what she can expect, she has mentioned Diarhea and something to do with hands and feet. can anyone help with information please.

good to know you are trying to help your sister through this. I started with Capecetabine four weeks ago so am just into my second dose. Side-effects seem to vary so much from person to person. So far I’ve had no digestive problems - feet and hands are sensitive and feet got very sore so Onc advised aqueous cream but BCN said udder cream was better (I’ve ordered some on the internet) and other people on this forum have suggested Flexitol cream (I’ve been using that and it has really helped). I’ve had lots of support from others on this site so no doubt they will give their thoughts too - try searching on this site under “subject” and I think you will get lots of ideas about this treatment - also try searching for Xeloda as that’s the trade-name.
I’m doing much better with this than with FEC and TAX so hope your sister does too.

Thank you Fran. I’ve heard of Flexitol its very rich and sounds like a good option. I’m really glad to read that you’ve not had digestive effects, and hope it stays that way for you. My sister will be having orals on a 2 wk on one wk off basis as far as I know. Am praying for least side effects possible for her as she is so positive and spiritually very strong.

I’ve just posted on this theme under another thread. I found Dr Scholl’s Hydrastep sandals really good during Capecitabine treatment. They are moisturised open-toed sandals which kept my feet really hydrated. I wore them as slippers round the house but they are probably suitable for wearing outside if the good weather (down south, anyway) continues. I think they’re about £25 and you can probably buy them online. They really helped to soothe my feet and are very comfortable to wear. Hope this may help.
